Because why not?

Weleda - Baby Derma White Mallow & Skin Food*

19 September 2016

Weleda recently reached out to me after an incident with one of their perfume samples (which was totally user error and my own fault) and offered to send me some items to try out, Weleda has been in the skin care game since 1921, so with 95 years of experience under their belt I asked for an item that has the National Eczema Association tick of approval.

I have dyshidrotic eczema, it only effects the hands and feet and at best it's simply ugly to look at, at it's worst, it is painful, itchy, unsightly and extremely difficult to manage.

When I opened my package from Weleda I not only found the Baby Derma White Mallow Body Lotion I had asked to try but also a tube of Skin Food, Almond Sensitive Skin Body Wash and a pair of cotton gloves.

With the change of seasons in full swing here in Australia I'm having a hard time with my eczema, I don't know what it is but my skin always loses the plot during the Winter/Spring and Summer/Autumn transitions, I have to manage my eczema every single day of the year to keep it under control but twice a year it's like my eczema wakes up from a bad nap and is just down right grumpy. Cue pain, itching and seriously ugly skin.

When my eczema is severe I walk a very fine line of what my skin can and can't handle, since incorporating these Weleda products in to my routine I've noticed my Winter/Spring transition has been easier to manage and I don't really feel the need to have a major rotation of eczema products on hand to keep the symptoms under control and I can just 'hydrate and go'.

Weleda Skin Food*

I have used this in the past and it is absolutely brilliant for dry skin issues. This has a thick balm like consistency and really helps to hydrate and soften over extended periods. It comes in a metal tube which makes getting every bit of product out of the tube easy and it smells of Rosemary and Citrus. I like to use this like a hydrating mask for my skin, when my eczema is in the flaky, dry skin phase I apply it before bed and pop some cotton socks on (this is also where the cotton gloves from Weleda came in handy!), in the morning I wash my hands and feet and apply a standard moisturiser before going about my day. I typically find that after the first application my skin is significantly softer to the touch and the dry flaky skin is heavily reduced, I repeat this process every night until my skin is looking it's best and then I cut back the treatments to twice a week to keep them in top shape.

Because this is a thick balm like product it doesn't absorb completely and leaves a barrier over the skin, if you are like me and find products that leave a hydrating residue over the skin to be a hindrance when going about your daily business then definitely incorporate this in to your night routine, otherwise this can be used all day, everyday and will offer hours upon hours of relief.

Weleda Skin Food comes in two sizes, 30ml (perfect for handbags!) and 75ml and a little goes a long way!

Weleda Baby Derma White Mallow Body Lotion*

The hardest thing about having eczema for me is finding products that I can use during the day that will relieve symptoms, help in repairing and treating the skin, not leave a slippery or sticky residue on the skin and that actually smell nice or simply have no scent. I think the hardest boxes to tick are the scent and residue issues, often natural ingredients that are great for treating eczema don't smell fabulous and when it comes to prolonged relief of symptoms you need the product to stay on the skin for extended periods resulting in a formula that leaves a residue on the skin.

The first time I used Weleda Baby Derma White Mallow Body Lotion I was a little bit excited, it didn't really smell like anything, it had a normal cream consistency, made my skin feel and look great and the residue it left was exactly what I was looking for in an eczema treatment cream, I could feel that it was going to offer prolonged relief but I wasn't worried about things slipping out of my hands when I picked them up and I wasn't leaving greasy finger prints on everything I touched.

This is a fabulous cream for dry skin! I have been using this in the morning after washing Weleda Skin Food off my hands and feet, of if my skin doesn't need Skin Food then I opt to go in with this instead, it still offers fantastic hydration and leaves my skin feeling comfortable and super soft! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone with dry, itchy, uncomfortable skin whether it be from eczema or any other skin issue.

Weleda Baby Derma White Mallow range consists of three products:

Weleda Almond Sensitive Skin Body Wash*

This is kind of like a gel cream that gently but effectively cleans the skin, it doesn't really foam up so it's very gentle on dry and sensitive skin. It doesn't dry out the skin but it also doesn't leave a residue of any type so you're just leaf with clean, soft skin.

This comes in a squeeze tube so is easy to use in the shower and smells just like sweet almonds, it brings back wonderful childhood scent memories for me, it reminds me of my Aunt and Uncles wedding in the early 90's where my cousin and I were flowergirls and treated like little princesses and allowed to run wild! The marzipan icing on the wedding cake was something we feasted on and the bonbonnieres were filled with traditional Jordan Almonds, by the end of the night we had baskets overflowing with the little organza bags and a sugar high that would have driven our parents mad, every time I use this in the shower I find myself smiling and thinking of our little back and white dresses and being told over and over that we were beautiful. Not only is the product gentle on my skin but it makes me feel so happy when I use it!

Weleda Almond Sensitive Skin range consists of seven products:

The last item I found in my parcel were a pair of cotton gloves, these are really well made, soft and help to lock in moisture not only at night but during the day when my hands are feeling particularly dry, they also fit me like a glove ;)

My overall experience with Weleda has been a positive one, the eczema on my hands is basically non existent and if I didn't tell you I had it you wouldn't even know. My feet are looking much better too, typically this is the area that it is most severe but right now I'm not having any itch or pain issues, there is no flaking skin and I would be comfortable going barefoot in public if I had to, if you are dealing with sensitive, dry or eczema prone skin I would suggest considering Weleda products on your next purchase.
