Pan That Palette 2016 - Update #1

29 March 2016

This update is late, I know. Rest assured I filmed and photographed everything on time though, it's just taken me this long to get around to the editing phase.

I'm not going to harp on with this update, photos, simple run down. Done.

Starting with the Estee Lauder Palette I only hit pan on  Sugar Biscuit but I did play around with a lot of the shades that I thought I'd never be able to pan and many of them are quite wearable.
As for my Zpalette I have pan on the Inglot pigment #81, most of it is just from product being pushed around but hey, it's still pan.

I placed an Inglot pressed shadow pan in there, it's my go to transition shade and just easy to keep in here, not actually part of the project though.

I repressed the Sugar Baby pan I'm using as a highlight, I ask Jesus daily to help me finally finish this off. No seriously, I actually pray over this one.

I repressed the long skinny burgundy brown pan because it was impossible to use.

And finally I'm tossing out the dusty dark pink at the bottom of the palette because it's rubbish!

So that's it, a month down, very little progress but I'm enjoying it son no complaints!

Look Fantastic - Beauty Box | March 2016

24 March 2016

The March Look Fantastic Beauty Box arrived harping on about Destination Beauty, I think they were going for a holiday theme or some crap.

Lottie London The Angle Brush - Full Size, RRP $9.60 - There were 4 brush options, angle, blender, concealer, shader. I would have loved the blender or shader.

Codage Masque Hydratant - Sample Size 15ml, Approx Value $24.19 - Hydrating face mask, I'm actually keen to try this, Codage is considered quite highend here in Australia.

Emergen.C Super Orange Powder Crap - Sample Size 2 Sachets, Approx Value $2.39 - There are these things called vitamins, some of them contain multiple benefits in one, they are fairly small and you can swallow then quite easily with a glass of water, juice, coffee or whatever else you like to drink. They help you to maintain your daily intake of healthy stuff that the body needs to survive and eradicate the need to mix this powdered, effervescent stuff with water and risk regurgitating it while trying to drink it.

Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balm in Demure - Full Size, RRP $17.95 - It's pink with sparkles.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream - Sample Size 23.8g, Approx Value $8.62 - I'm actually keen to try this, I love receiving samples of products that are majorly hyped and made the rounds of YouTube. Is it actually as good as everyone says it is? Who knows! Now I get to find out.

Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse - Sample Size 15ml, Approx Value $16.87 - Another moisturiser, I like Nuxe so I'm happy to try it out.

Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water - Sample Size 50ml, Approx Value $11 - No complaints here. I like Micellar lotions.

Approx value of box: $90.62

I believe I have 6 boxes left in my yearly subscription. The half way mark. By January I will be rid of Look Fantastic and their crappy customer service.

A Look Fantastic Beauty Box will set you back $21.60AUD per box on a 12 month subscription.

Maslow & Co - February 2016 | UK Edit

21 March 2016

There is a new Australian beauty subscription service on the block going by the name of Maslow & Co, they release their boxes bi-monthly and instead of just getting whatever brands they can on board they curate their boxes with certain countries in mind. The first country they focused on was Australia which makes perfect sense and then followed up with a box bringing us treats from the UK.

Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm - Full Size 100ml, RRP $32.05
This one is an emulsifying balm that claims to need no warming, it simply melts when it comes in contact with the skin. I'll definitely be using this in the future! Can't go past a balm cleanser, especially in the winter!

Pixi Glow Tonic - Sample Size 100ml, Approx Value $14.80
A cult classic exfoliating toner. I have wanted to try this for the longest time but it's not exactly the easiest product to find in Australia, pair that with a reluctance to buy skincare online that I'm not already familiar with and you end up with me always wondering what it's really like. I have already incorporated this in to my routine and so far I'm enjoying it.

London Butterflies Bath Salt Scrub - Sample Size 34g, Approx Value $9.36
This is a 'Maslow Maven Gift', if you update your profile when you sign up you are automatically sent an extra item in your box, this month they sent out one of two items; a body cream or a scrub. This one contains sea salt and sweet almond oil and feels pretty damn luxe.

Pop Beauty Kajal Eyeliner Pen - Full Size 0.9g, RRP $14.10
Just a black eyeliner. Intense pigmentation, creamy formula.

Mauli Rituals Grow Strong Hair Oil - Sample Size 15ml, Approx Value $29.97
This hair oil claims to promote hair growth using herbs which activates the hair follicles at a cellular level promoting growth, strength and thickness. I love trying stuff like this, it encourages superb hair cair routines and even if the product doesn't really work the daily scalp massage will help promote hair and scalp health regardless. I won't even care if it works or not, I'm excited to try it!

Ila Spa Shampoo for Revitalising Hair, paired with Conditioner for Nourishing Hair - Sample Size 50ml each, Approx Value $6.52 each
A deep cleansing shampoo and deep nourishing conditioner. Truth be told I'm rarely sad to see hair samples in boxes, my hair and skin gets used to products and stops responding to their benefits when I'm about 3/4 a way through the product, so I'm constantly keeping things on rotation and swapping them out, there are only a few products that I buy and use constantly year after year so having new hair cleansing and conditioning products to try out just means that it prolongs the time I have before I need to buy new products. Will absolutely give these a go!

Total value of contents: $113.32

Overall I'm quite pleased with the contents and looking forward to the months to come, I love that this box focuses on products from one country with each edit, giving me the opportunity to find some new treasures that may never have even shown up on my radar.

Marie Claire The Parcel - Autumn 2016 Edit

20 March 2016
Oh look! Another beauty subscription box and a crazy person (me).

This one is Marie Claire's The Parcel (the standard one, they have two; you can check out the other one here.. actually they have 4.. 5 if you include the Girlfriend edit for the young ones but we are getting off track). So let's check out the Autumn 2016 Edit.

Crop Natural Pure Macadamia Oil - 50ml, Full Size RRP $18
Macadamia Oil. Can be used for cleansing, as a serum, body treatment, hair oil or hydration booster for nails. I'll tell you a secret; most oils can be used for these things. I use oils quite regularly in my routine so this will likely be used.

MOR Emporium Classic Triple-Milled Soap in Blood Orange - Sample Size 100g, Approx Value $11.08
I thought this one was full size when I pulled it out of the box but turns out it's just 100g deluxe sample (compared to 180g). Smells lovely but I'm not a bar soap person, this one will be going to mum.

Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape + Fill Expert Serum - Sample Size 4ml, Approx Value $18.66
This is supposed to be a serum for your neck that tightens and plumps the skin along your jawline. I'm going to smear it all over my face and expect Jesus to come down and wave a magic wand considering that this is typically sold as a $140 serum that contains only 30ml of product.

Gilded Cage Unleashed Lipstick in Singular Red - Full Size 3.5g, RRP $40
Why you have to be red beautiful lipstick? The packaging on this has won my heart but I am trying to make an effort to be a realist about what I bring in to my collection because I'm clearly already out of control. My name is Hailey and I don't wear enough red lipstick to add another one to the 16 red lip products I already don't use. Kat this needs a home.
Just to be clear about why I'm so sad, there were three shades available in the boxes, I bet one was a pinky nude that had my name all over it.

OPI Nail Lacquer - Full Size 15ml, RRP $19.95
Baby pink nail polish in I love applause, 10 shade possibilities available in the boxes. I'll take it.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water - Full Size 125ml, RRP $6.95
I am biased, I love my Bioderma. Although I have now had the opportunity to try this and it's ok, it will allow me a few weeks of makeup removal without having to go out and buy something for the task.

Full value of box: $114.64

Overall I think the box is quite good, the value is definitely impressive and I do prefer this over some other Australian beauty subscription boxes I've tried in the past.

Marie Claire's The Parcel is a quarterly subscription service, a seasonal subscription (pay as you go) will set you back $25AUD per box or you can sign up for a whole year and pay in advance which will cost you $99AUD ($24.75 per box) and for those who are curious and want just one, you'll be paying $29.95AUD for the box. If you want to subscribe you'll also need to go on a waiting list because these boxes are popular and they keep the service under control so they can provide quality over quantity. Sampled Out 2016 - Update # 3

17 March 2016

Three months in and I'm loving this project! Probably one of the easier 'use it up' projects I've done. It's great to see my samples stash shrinking!

Brand Overview - 1000 Hour*

16 March 2016

I want to talk lashes. Lashes are important, when they are on point they add femininity to the eyes, make tired people look well rested and when we have things about our eye shape that we don't like, doing the right stuff to your lashes can completely change the eye shape.

I was lucky enough to receive a bunch of 1000 Hour Lash products in the Dream Creators (Instagram) goodie bag and when they contacted me to see how I was going with the products they offered to send me out some lashes that were more suited to my eye shape (very generous!)

Heated Eyelash Curler

Let's start with the basics, having curled lashes will open the eyes significantly and make you look more awake. If you're already blessed with naturally curly lashes then you should thank your lucky stars.

If not then you have probably struggled with lash curlers while trying to get use to them and perhaps even had an incident where you have ripped out some of the most precious hairs on your face, I have experienced this and it has been a major cause of anxiety for me. It lead to me simply refusing to use a traditional lash curler, those things are heinous.

This isn't the first heated lash curler I've used and it is up there with the more affordable yet effective on the market.

Essentially what you have here is a battery powered wand that heats up and allows you to curl your lashes the easy, quick and safe way.

The wand only takes a minute to heat up and has protective strips that prevent the hottest part of the wand from touching your skin so it's very difficult to burn yourself.

You simply turn it on, allow it to heat up for a minute and then press it against the base of your clean lashes, putting pressure in a slow, upward motion, this can be repeated multiple times for more stubborn lashes or you can simply hold the wand at the base of the lashes while pushing them up against your eyelid and keep it in place for a minute to help them curl, then simply drag the curler through the lengths of the lashes to finish them off. Once you have the desired effect just apply mascara and you're done!

Liquid Eyeliner with Lash Enhancing Serum

This product really surprised me but probably not in the way you would expect.

This liquid liner claims 'fuller, thicker, longer looking lashes in 60 days', I used it every time I wore makeup for 9 weeks and I think the main thing people will want to know about this product is if it works or not.

Personally I don't feel like I had any growth results while using the liner but I think it's important to point out that I used this product over layers of other eye products like primer and often multiple layers of eyeshadow, since this is a coloured product I only wore it on days when I was planning on wearing makeup and it was never applied to clean, completely naked skin, which in my experience is how these types of products perform best.

But when I consider this products as just an eyeliner that's where it kicks goals, the brush is by far one of the best I have ever used that was provided with a product, 99% of the time I completely disregard brushes that come with gel or liquid liners and use my own because they tend to be rubbish, this one completely surprised me though, it has enough movement to work seamlessly with the contours of your lash line, holds together during application and doesn't splay so you can achieve a super thin line and sharp wing and holds the perfect amount of product so you'll never accidentally flood your lash line.

As for the formula it's pretty spot on, mine is brown and I was concerned it would be a little too warm but it sets to a gray toned matte brown and doesn't budge! It's beautifully opaque so you won't need to apply multiple layers and it also comes in black for those who just can't compromise on a cat eye.

This is a fantastic liner and the way it performs totally makes up for any disappointment on the lash growth front. I'll be picking up the black liner in the future simply because the formula and applicator are awesome.

Individual  & Full Bar Lashes

I really love individual lashes, you can probably tell because I ramble about this for a long time in the video and although I know these can be more difficult to apply in the early stages, once you have a technique down pat they are fool proof and look gorgeous!

These lashes are no exception, they offer a beautiful fluttery effect that can be worn subtly or you can layer them for a more dramatic effect.

These lashes come in three sizes, short (7mm), medium (9mm) and long (11mm), personally I think the 9mm are too long for standard wear and would always point people to the 7mm, I'd also love to see these in a 5mm for filling sparse areas on shorter lashes.

As for their full bar lashes you simply can't go wrong. They are great quality, soft, flexible and come in many different styles to suit your personal preferences. I like to buy lashes that are symmetrical and cut them in half since my eyes are on the small side but if you have larger eyes you'll be able to wear anything from the range with no issues.

The glue that is provided is latex free, has strong hold and dries clear and since it's latex free it doesn't stink! The little vial provided will last you a heck of a long time and the applicator is nice and thin so getting just the right amount on your lash band is easy without wasting product. When I use a pair of 1000 Hour lashes for a freelancing job I often give the client the glue as a 'just in case' fall back but I have yet to hear any complaints from crying brides and bridesmaids.

1000 Hour products can be purchased online at Priceline or in store nation wide.

Marie Claire - The Parcel Ageless | Autumn 2016 Edit

15 March 2016

I have gone subscription box crazy. I have somehow found myself subscribed to 4 different boxes, all with year long subscriptions but three of them are only bi-monthly or quarterly boxes. Justify!

I had high hopes for the Marie Claire Ageless Parcel, I've seen some impressive unboxings of the standard box so it makes sense that I would expect great things right? I'm just going to get in to the contents and save my opinions for the end.

Essano Rosehip Collagen Repair Serum Full Size RRP $29.99
A rosehip serum aimed at plumping fine lines, tightening pores and improving elasticity. I really love rosehip oil so this will get some use for sure.

Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream Full Size RRP $19.99
A night cream with the benefits of a mask but the feel of a lotion. Dear God, I do not need any more moisturisers. I like to think that I'll use it but it'll likely sit on my stash for a year until I have another clean out.

Elucent Whitening Hand Cream Full Size RRP $24.99
A hand cream that contains vitamin C to brighten, vitamin E to hydrate and B3 to even skin tone. I'm not jumping for joy over this, I generally don't care for whitening products and since I've found my Holy Grail hand cream I'm not chomping at the bit to try this.

Tresemme Fullness Emulsion Spray Full Size RRP $10.99
Thickening spray for the hair. I hate the spray applicator on this, it's like a jet stream of fluid rather than a spritz, I will however try this because I'm still on the hunt for an easily accessible thickening and volumising product.

Lonvitalite Collagen Crystal Eye Mask Sample Approx Value $5.33
Collagen eye mask to help brighten dark circles and reduce fine lines. I've tried these before and don't mind them so this will definitely be used.

Elizabeth Arden Pro Triple Action Protector Sample Approx Value $29.70
A tinted moisturiser with SPF that is supposed to fix all your ageing woes. I'm not in to this, in the video I said I'd try it out but I've come to my senses. I don't like tinted, oily, sunscreen/moisturiser things, I like products that are targeted and do one job well instead of five jobs badly.

Value of box $120.99

You can probably gather that I'm not overwhelmed by the products in the box but this is simply personal preference, I can't slam it because MY GOD THOSE FULL SIZE PRODUCTS!!!

I also feel that the value is really damn good and lets face it, the box would likely be well received by many, just because I'm being picky doesn't make it a crap box. If you are interested in trying more 'drug store' branded products then I would definitely say this is a good option.

To find out more about Marie Claire The Parcel Ageless you can check out this link here (not affiliate).
A single box will set you back $29.95, seasonal subscriptions (pay as you go) will bring the box down to $25 each and a yearly subscription is $90 (pay up front) making each box just $22.50.

If you subscribe to The Parcel Ageless let me know if you enjoy the subscription or not!

Project Pan - Round 1 Finale | Round 2 Intro

14 March 2016

More makeup empties!

Essence Match 2 Cover Concealer Duo - I enjoyed this for the most part, considering it's a $5 concealer it works quite well.

Aldi Solid Perfume in Poppy - Solid perfumes aren't my thing, I don't want to add an extra minute to my routine to ensure this is rubbed in properly and I'd prefer to just spritz a perfume and go. I won't be holding on to this one.

Gorgeous Cosmetics Lipstick in Sophia - I enjoyed the colour of this but the formula has a tendency to grab at dry areas on my lips so it's not one I'd repurchase.

MAC Eye Khol - Was using this as an eyeshadow base and it worked really well, glad to see it's finished finally. I'm not really one to use eye pencils so I can't say I'd repurchase it but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Inglot AMC Shadow in #65 - I can't believe I hit pan on a black eyeshadow, I'm going to hold on to this because it is a fantastic formula.

Australis Paparazzi Perfect Blush in Poser - This makes a fantastic bronzer and I did enjoy it while I was using it but considering that there is 9 grams of product in the pan, it's very pigmented and I can only use it during the dead of summer when I'm super tanned, I have decided it's not smart for me to hold on to this, it will take me years and years to finish it.

Gorgeous Cosmetics Liquid Lips in Nude - Really enjoy this, it is a little sticky but I can deal with that. I reckon I have about another 3-4 months use in this but I'm going to set it aside for a little while and play with some other lip products.

Bare Minerals Prime Time Foundation Primer - I like this enough to keep it, I'm not so sure it does a whole lot for me but I'm not willing to chuck this out simply because it's not particularly cheap.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Barely Branded - I don't like these colour tattoos, I'm not even going to try to pretend with this, it's going in the bin.

I'm happy with how I went with my first round, I finished 9 items completely, decided 3 weren't going to work for me in the future and put 3 items back in my stash for future use.

My total for makeup used during this project is $164.25

Round Two is another mish-mash of products that I either want gone or want to establish whether or not I want to keep them in my stash.

Olay 30 Second Wrinkle Filler - This is one of the items that I want to decide if I'm keeping or not, I'm just going to use it as a primer, if it effectively deals with lines and wrinkles then I'll hold on to it.

Bare Minerals Bare Skin Foundation - This is rubbish but it's only half the size of a full bottle and I'd say it's about half done, since it is usable I'd be much happier if I actually finished it than just threw it in the bin. I'm hoping this will be done by the first update.

Designer Brands Extend A Brow - These are little coloured fibres for the brows, would just like to have a good go at this product and see how much I can use.

Beauty Blender Rea.Activate - This can be used to hydrate your beauty blender on the go or as a setting spray, it's my intention to try it out as a setting spray and if I hate it for that purpose I'll just use it to keep my beauty blender hydrated while applying my makeup.

Revlon Age Defying Concealer - I really like this but the colour is too dark for me, I can make it work right now because I'm quite tanned and can bronze myself almost to death. Since this is almost done I'd really like to make an effort to finish it off.

Boe Beauty Pressed Powder - I'm on a mission to use up some powders and I'm aiming my focus on my cheaper powders to start, I chose this one simply because it had a little less product than some of my other powders, I quite like this powder so I can't see myself having any issues using it.

The Yeon Style Y Liquid Blush in Smoothie Pink - Just want to see if this is something I can love or if it's time to move it on.

Maybelline Brow Drama Transparent Sculpting Gel - This is a great formula but the applicator is just stupid, I want to concentrate on this over the next few months and then get rid of it.

Giorgio Armani Armani Code - I have a little over half of this left, I don't expect to finish it but I'd love to see half of what I have left finished off by the end of the project.

Boe Professional Bronzer Duo in Glamazon - Would just like to see a nice dent in these, the colours are quite nice and I'm not in any rush to finish them off but if I managed to hit pan on either of them (which isn't completely unrealistic since they are only 2.5grams each), I'll consider them done and they can go back in my stash.

Rimmel Apocalips in Apocaliptic - I have 4 of these in my stash and I'd just like to work out whether I'm ever going to be able to make an effort to use them or if it's better to just get rid of them.

Limelily Pencil in Jet - I have a crap load of eye pencils and I never use them. This is me trying to use them.

Gorgeous Cosmetics Lip Liner in Manhattan - The GC lip liners last a hell of a long time so I doubt I'll finish this, just want to have a good go at it so it'll be a little easier to finish when I come back to it in the future.

Revlon Petal - Lipsticks are always hard for me to finish so I figured I'd pick an easy one and a tough one. Hopefully wearing this a few times a week with reapplication will have it out of my collection by the end of the project.

Estee Lauder Venetian Rose - This one I don't expect to finish, I simply want to make an effort to work on it so it's not so big when I come back to it later.

I'm glad to be concentrating on a new batch of products!
