Favourites & Fuck Ups - January 2016

4 February 2016
Ooooh favourites. Much excite! Let's look...

Oblepikha Siberica Mask For Severely Damaged Hair (Review) - Hello lovely, pleasure to slather you all over my hair, this may smell like passion fruit and feet but it does lovely (temporary) things for my hair. Typically my hair is a little dry and straggly looking, with frizz and dullness.. Exactly what you'd expect from a woman who went from a brown so dark it was bordering on black to platinum in the space of about 2 months and then continued to bleach her hair for two years. This is no miracle mask but it really does help with keeping tangles to a minimum, smoothing the hair shaft, adding a little shine, improving softness and movement and giving the hair some manageability. If your hair is fucked, pick this up at your local Chemist Warehouse, it'll only set you back $19.95, will last you quite a long time and might not make you rue the day the decided to play with bleach. I'll continue to use this until I've managed to grow my hair out.

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops - This. Is. Bomb. I own quite a few foundations that I love, most offer medium coverage but are buildable for full coverage, problem with building is you are just caking the makeup on, I love a full cover look but I don't like cake unless I'm eating it. Adding these to your foundation ups the coverage without the need to layer, they don't change the consistency of your foundation and they aren't so thick that they feel heavy on your skin. If you have a favourite foundation and want to be able to play with the coverage without applying 2-4 layers of foundation on your skin buy these. They also claim you can turn a moisturiser in to a foundation or tinted moisturiser, don't waste this baby on that crap. I also think you could buy darker drops to tint foundation, not sure how lightening would go though.. I said I wouldn't test this out in the video but now that the seed is planted I'm feeling like I really have to. I'd suggest getting colour matched (and a sample) at Sephora and buying from PM Studios because savings!

Hand Chemistry Intense Youth Complex Hand Cream - I never thought I'd see the day where I would say that I'd found a Holy Grail hand cream. This stuff is supposed to help with lines, hydration, age spots and all the other ugly shit that happens to hands as we age. I've always felt that my hands showed my age but this has been helpful. Not only has it softened the lines on the back of my hands but it makes my knuckles look less heinous and made them feel lovely and soft. It absorbs quickly and smells like love.. If love smelled like tropical bliss, which it should by the way. I won't be buying any other hand creams in the future, this is The One. Hand Chemistry will be coming to Priceline soon, Deciem promised me.

MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Sunshine - This featured in the Faerie Whispers collection and after swatching it at Chadstone and walking away I couldn't stop thinking about it. So back to MAC I went. This is a stunning peachy pink which I've been using layered as a blush or dusted lightly as a soft highlight. Currently obsessed. This will set you back $47AUD at MAC. Thank God for pro cards.

MAC Eye Brows in Lingering - Another MAC product, this is almost unheard of for me, don't get me wrong I like MAC (which is pretty obvious right now) but I'm certainly not part of the MAC mafia. The reason you're seeing a second MAC product is simply because I was trying to pan one of these and, spoiler alert, I did. This is my backup and just so you know how keen I am on these right now I went and purchased one in Fling which is more suitable for my current hair colour. I love these because the tip is so thin, giving you the option to feather in hair, fill small areas or go heavy and really have a bangin' brow. These will set you back $30 at MAC.

Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette - This falls in to the love and hate category, Danger & Punk have my heart right now, these colours are just fucking stunning! Danger is a gorgeous deep royal blue while punk is kind of like a blacked plum when applied with a hint of brown making it super wearable, no balls required. Serious is also lovely and the matte neutrals right in the center are quite nice but nothing special. When I look at the rest of the palette all I see are 6 colours that basically look exactly the same when applied to the eyes (Blonde, Bathwater, Skimp, Steady, Baby & Pop) and then a feral pink that should never have seen the light of day. If it wasn't for Punk and Danger I would have returned this.

Lush Ocean Salt Facial Scrub - Moving in to major fails, I'll start with one that I thought would be fantastic. This contains sea salt chunks and makes me feel like I'm scrubbing my face with shards of glass, it actually hurts me. My skin can handle a lot but this just kills me. I'll be using this as a body scrub to get rid of it.

Rimmel Super Gel - I'll start out by saying I quite like the colour coat of this duo (012 Soul Session), it's only pictured because they came as a duo and I also need to point out that the colour coat is in no way a gel and has no lasting effects of a gel, it's just a normal nail polish. The gel topcoat on the other hand is supposed to give up to 14 days of chip free wear, I got about 12 hours each time I used it. For me this is just like any other nail polish, takes ages to dry, doesn't last on the nails and is simply nothing special. I also get bubbles in the polish if I don't allow every single layer to dry perfectly before applying another, so this is typically a 1.5-2 hour event for me and I can not be fucked!

Smashbox Double Exposure Palette - I'll have a review for this coming when I can be bothered, the idea behind this palette is that the colours can be used wet or dry and when applied wet they will have an effect on the shadow, making some metallic, deepening the pigment, yadda, yadda, yadda. When used dry they aren't very impressive, if you tried it's predecessor, the Full Exposure Palette then you will know exactly what I'm talking about, they aren't very pigmented and require a lot of building. When applied wet they are basically the same, some shades look a little better but overall it's not anything to write home about.

Smashbox also claim that the shadows will return to their normal consistency when they dry but can we just take a look at the hard pan on the dark brown shade and accept that it's simply not true.

  1. Thanks for the tip on the cover fx drops, I've been thinking about getting them.

Deciem just had 20% off in January I picked up some CAIS from the NIOD range, I looked at hand chemistry but resisted, kicking myself now!

  2. I've been umming & aahing about the Rimmel SuperGel so that will be a no-thank-you! I own quite enough nailpolish without adding to it for no real benefit!

  3. Finally someone with the same opinion as me about the Rimmel Super Gel! I'm giving it a second go since a disappointing first use about a month ago. It's lasted longer this time around, I'm up to day 3. But definitely not gel like at all.
