Because why not?

Mecca Cosmetica - Artistry Series Contouring Sponge

23 March 2015
People rave about Beauty Blenders. I want a Beauty Blender but I don't know of any stores where I can buy one and get instant satisfaction with a cash-for-item purchase so I opted to buy the Mecca Cosmetica Artistry Series Contouring Sponge.

On the Mecca website this is listed as a blending sponge, and they do mention using it for foundation, just want to clear that up before I get in to my review.

The sponge comes in a little box and inside you'll find your sponge with a little metal ring around it, what the ring is for is beyond me, it's supposed to be removed before washing and with or without it the sponge holds it's shape and is easy to grip, it's excessive and unnecessary fanciness. Dad would say 'It's like tits on a Bull'.

I'm sure you all know how a sponge like this is supposed to be used but on the off chance that you've just discovered the beauty world, you essentially wet the sponge until it expands slightly, squeeze out the excess moisture and then use it to blend your foundation, contour and or highlight.

I'm just gonna get right down to it.. There is nothing going on here that is special. For years and years and yeeeeeaaaaarrrrrsssss people have been using sponges like this to help with base blending, about once a year I buy a cheap packet of wedge or flat sponges from Coles or some other budget store to help with makeup application when my skin is particularly shit (Winter, I'm looking at you) or if I'm simply using a shit foundation. With those cheap sponges (that are made of the same material as this thing) I blend my makeup where I have skin texture issues and they take away the excess makeup while applying a perfect layer of just what I need so my skin doesn't look so shit.

Why the fuck did I spend $16AUD on a shapely sponge that does the same thing as a packet of 20 for $7 from Coles? What is going on with these types of sponges that makes people think they are better or more effective? Is it because they are pretty and come with a hefty price tag?

So you can probably tell that I'm not impressed and using this product hasn't instilled a sense of confidence about splurging on a Beauty Blender, while the sponge does work and helps when I'm having shitty application days it sure as hell isn't life altering like people make them out to be. It's a fucking cosmetic sponge, they all do the same thing.

The Mecca Cosmetica Artistry Series Contouring Sponge can be purchased in store at Mecca Cosmetica or online for $16AUD.

If you've tried the Mecca Contouring Sponge or a Beauty Blender let me know your thoughts.
