Because why not?

Unboxing - LookFantastic Beauty Box December 2014

30 January 2015
This post is crazy late, I though I published it over a week ago but I think I've been asleep at the wheel.

Since Memebox is slowing down with their box releases and I'm not over receiving surprise boxes of goodies in the post I've started to branch out and think it's time to try out some different beauty sub boxes. Last month (or it may have been late November, I can't remember) I ordered the Look Fantastic December Beauty Box and it took forever to arrive but that was to be expected with shipping from the UK during the crazy Christmas rush.

The Look Fantastic Beauty Boxes are released monthly and have to be purchased each month, they don't offer a subscription service which is how I like it, sometimes I want to go mad on boxes and sometimes I want to go mad in the shops so I like being able to pick and choose where I spend my money.

The boxes sell for 15 pounds which worked out to $28.48AUD at the time, the good thing about the Look fantastic website is that you can change the currency to match your Country so the bank won't hit you with conversion fees when the payment is made. Shipping is free so you only pay for the cost of the box.

The box is a generous size and comes well padded so your items are kept safe on the long trip across the pond.

My box came with a coupon for Coggles.com and an info booklet for the contents of the box, the only issue I have here is that the info booklet doesn't contain any prices so I had to research all that myself to help work out the approximate value of the box.

My box contained 7 items, I didn't photograph them all separately because many speak for themselves.

First up is the Macadamia Professional Infused Comb, supposedly this is a resin comb infused with the Macadamia Healing Oil and simply brushing your hair with it 'will impart cumulative benefits of our wondrous oil treatment'. I do not believe the bullshit this product is pushing but I'm going to try it out and I reckon I'll likely review it because if it works then it'll be amazing and if it doesn't I'll get to rant. This is a win/win situation. This retails for $11.22

Next is the Gold Collagen Pure Liquid Supplement. This is a consumable liquid that is supposed to help promote younger skin, support skin hydration and elasticity, promote healthy looking nails and hair and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It's recommended to drink one bottle a day for 4-8 weeks to see the benefits. I'm trying to drink it now and it tastes like fucking shit. It's pecah and passionfruit flavour with the horrific after taste of stevia and a slightly thicker consistency than water, these retail for $51.28 for a pack of ten and I'd probably pay that much not to drink another one, approximate value of this is $5.12

Next is a whole bunch of YAY with the Murad Environmental Shield Essential-C Cleanser, I often forget that my skin responds really well to vitamin c, I think it's because I'm switching up products so often that it's just easy to forget what's great until another product triggers my memory. This one uses vitamins A, C & E, Sodium PCA and Allantoin to fight free radical damage, moisturise, soothe and rejuvenate, do I believe a cleanser will do all those things? No, not really but if it cleans my skin well I'll be happy. Approximate value of this 45ml sample is $14.77.

Ahhh, now we have some makeup the Bourjois Intense Smokey Kit. This is the reason I usually stay away from typical beauty box subs, I seem to be a super bitch about makeup products in these boxes, when I saw this I made a face and pushed it aside. It's not that I don't like the brand or I don't like the colours or even that I have too much makeup, in fact, I would probably even buy this if I saw it in store for the right price, but since I received it in a box I don't want it. I don't understand why I feel this way, it doesn't happen with makeup items in Memeboxes (unless it's an orange lip product), I think I'm just a bit weird and seriously judgmental about makeup that I find in beauty boxes. I have yet to swatch this and I might even pass it along. This retails for $15.18

Another makeup item, this one by Lord & Berry, I have lusted over some Lord & Berry products for so damn long but again, it came in a box and now I don't want it.. What's wrong with me? I have swatched this so I'll have to use it, it's smooth, has good pigment and is something I would buy but I just kind of hate it. The full size of these retail for $19 and since this is about 1/3 the size I'd say it's value is around $6.30

Back to skincare with Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Youth Activating Oil, this sample feels expensive, the packaging is heavy and sturdy and holds 100% Rosehip Oil concentrate. Love! This one is half the size of a full size bottle and is worth approximately $46.06 (the fuck!?!)

And finally Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel, this uses fruit enzymes from papaya and pineapple to exfoliate the skin, I've had a super awesome peel in a salon that used fruit enzymes and I've never been able to find one that was quite as effective but I've also been hesitant to spend big dollars on the high end brands so I'm really keen to try this out. Approximate value is $17.36.

Approximate value of the box is $116.01 and even though I'm a bit of a hater on the makeup I'm really happy with the contents, it's got a nice mixture of high-end skincare to try out and I an see myself buying more of these boxes in the future.

Just a quick note to let you know that I took all of these prices off the LookFantastic.com website, I converted my currency to AUD and did a little math where needed, some of the prices on LF are higher than Aussie prices and some are cheaper, I didn't bother researching the cheapest possible prices because I don't care enough. I also believe they listed the value of the box when it was for sale but I didn't make note of it because I assumed that info would be in the box when it arrived.

I have decided to sub to an Aussie Beauty Sub Box this year, so if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them!

Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying. Items marked * were sent to me for trial and consideration, all other products were purchased by myself and I am in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. All opinions are my own and based on my personal experience. Integrity Always..

  1. haha i feel a rant post coming up with the comb. Though not a full rant, i mean as far as detangling my curls in the shower its quite good, with the wide teeth and somewhat rounded ends, as opposed to sharper pointy ends.
However this bit "will impart cumulative benefits of our wondrous oil treatment" is a big joke! It does nothing other than detangle... as far as I can tell anyway LOL

    1. It's a little pricey with conversion but I'm impressed with the brands that are included and the samples are very generous in size! I would recommend trying a box to see how you like it ;) x
