Blogmas - Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Wardrobe

5 December 2014
I feel like there has been a bit of 'Hourglass Ambient Lighting Madness' going on, these products have so much hype behind them and they are presented so beautifully to consumers that they are really hard to resist, I was no exception.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Wardrobe comes in a beige-y gold coloured palette that is the same size and shape as the Powder Wardrobe (review) and contains three blushes; Luminous Flush, Incandescent Electra & Mood Exposure, each blush is a colour pigment mixed with an Ambient Lighting Powder, they are silky smooth and deceptively pigmented! The palette also comes with a mirror which could be handy if you traveled with it but you're unlikely to need it for touch-ups throughout the day.

The colours in the palette:

Luminous Flush: A pretty soft rose combined with Lumionus Light.

Incandescent Electra: A bright pink with a light peach undertone combined with Incandescent Light, both of which are exclusive to the palettes only.

Mood Exposure: A soft plum combined with Mood Light.

Obviously the colours are beautiful and wearable as you can see from the swatches but I think the most important thing that needs to be discussed is how they perform and how to use them to get the best result.

As I said before these are deceptively pigmented, after applying you might feel like you aren't getting any or enough colour pay off but you have to be careful when going in for subsequent layers because these will go from zero to would-you-like-some-face-with-that-blush in an instant. Layer slowly and blend well!
Luminous Flush | Incandescent Electra | Mood Exposure
Like any powder product, when these are applied over a liquid or cream foundation they can and will cling and you might find yourself with a weird patchy application if you aren't careful. The story goes like this;
My face is done and the finishing step is blush, I'm loving this dewy finish foundation so I think I'll skip a setting powder today....
Moments later
Oh dear, I think I applied a little too much, better blend it out..
Mad blending skills engaged
Well great. Looks like I'll be rocking the 'Patchy, contagious skin condition blush look' today. Fuck everything.
Moral of the story is either use these over a setting powder if you're in to the 'less face more blush' look or go light.

Personally I think less is more with these blushes, using them lightly gives the finish they are supposed to provide; a natural flush with multidimensional colour which is supposed to make them look more natural while also perfecting the skin. These blushes are supposed to be teamed with the Ambient Lighting Powders, so you have a seamless and consistent glow rather than just a patch of glow on the cheeks.

When it comes to longevity these powders have staying power, I've never touched them up and am always a little surprised at how they still look the same as when I applied them earlier in the day regardless of what I was doing

Pros:
  • Stunning colours
  • Major ass kicking longevity
  • Look gorgeous when applied properly

Cons:
  • Easy to go overboard

Conclusion: While these blushes have their downsides I am still a fan and I find myself choosing these over the other blushes in my collection, the colours are simply gorgeous and the finish is like nothing I've ever seen before in a blush.

  1. Such beautiful blushes! They actually appear more pigmented than what I thought they would be haha, I can't justify the purchase at the moment but this set is definitely on my to-buy list- awesome review!
