Because why not?

Subscription Box - Monstrositea September 2014.

30 August 2014
My little box of joy arrived recently and I was straight in to tasting!

This months Monstrositea box included 5 teas for sampling and one was extremely interesting!

1. Elmstock Tea - Russian Caravan: I don't think I've tried a Russian Caravan tea before, I know they are readily available all over the place and I'm very familiar with the name but on smelling it as it brewed it was a totally new experience for me. The tea smells smoky, woody and almost meaty while it brews, I tried this naked and the smokey flavour is intense! I then added sugar and milk and I couldn't help but feel like I was having a Willy Wonka experience, it was almost like dinner flavoured tea ha! Although this wasn't mind blowing for me I actually enjoyed the experience and I wouldn't dismiss Russian Caravan from my purchases in the future.

2. Austral Herbs - Pick Me Up: I've always been one to bottle up my stress and put on a brave face, I'm dead certain this will be my downfall one day. When it comes to calming the inner beast/uplifting the soul/dealing with stress from the inside/whatever you want to call it; I know that herbalism works for me and the right pot of tea or essential oil in a burner can have a better effect than a valium from the doctor. This tea claims to be energising, healing and settling at the same time, on brewing I can smell thyme and peppermint, the taste is very subtle, like a very light peppermint tea, so it's extremely easy to drink and sitting down with multiple cups to achieve the medicinal effects would be a pleasant experience, love receiving teas like this in box!!!

3. Tea Lovers - Dragon Fruit: This was the first tea I sampled because it smelt sooo good! As the tea is steeping you can see it stars to form a pretty red tinge which I assume is from the cherries it contains. This has a gorgeous fruity scent and flavour, the blend is really refreshing and while it's a little tangy it has an underlying sweetness as well. Would make an amazing iced tea!

4. Royal Bay Tea - Longjing Green Tea: This green tea is supposed to have a 'hint of savory chestnut' flavour and my initial thoughts were to save it for my guests who enjoy green tea I may still give this a go to see if it's different to those I've already tried.

Nitto - Matcha Kuzu-yu.

5. Nitto - Matcha Kuzu-yu: This was the tea that had my interest peaked, as I've said before; green tea is probably my least favourite type of tea but the description was just too temptingly weird for me to pass it up. "... This is a yummy thick, sweet, green tea. Reminds me of Spanish hot chocolate. Put the powder in a cup and pour over boiling water, whisk it up (or stir with vigor) and it'll thicken up nicely". Thicken up it did, I'm not sure if you can really tell from the photos but it had the consistency of a semi-thick soup. I thought it would be milky like those instant coffee sachets that are available but was surprised to see that it's a murky, translucent green color, it legit looks like slime. The flavour is that of sweet green tea and when you combine it with the consistency you have a product that I did not love. This would actually make a fantastic SPFX slime for use in the mouth.. I can't believe I just made tea a possible makeup item.

Aside from not loving green tea I did enjoy this box, I'm never afraid to try new things and when the occasional tea doesn't float my boat it always makes a guest happy!
