Because why not?

Subscription Box - Monstrositea July 2014.

27 June 2014
I was so happy to see my Monstrositea box in the mail this week, I was particularly hoping that there would be a herbal blend aimed at calming and soothing.

You knew I was having a hard time didn't you Monstrositea? Tell your psychic tea picker that they got skills!

The first thing I do when I get my Monstrositea box is photograph it, this time I was so intrigued by one of the contents that it was torturous not to let my grabby hands do their thing.

Eeeeeeeeee! Things!!!

I was instantly drawn to the little packet that wasn't like the rest of it's family. Iced tea is the shit! I was so happy to see these included!

This little packet contains 3 flavoured green tea sachets, apple, blueberry & peach, with no added yuckies. I love being able to make my own iced tea, it gets a little expensive when you consume multiple bottles a day and I have to be careful of artificial sweeteners and additives because they can trigger my migraines at the drop of a hat.
I tried the peach flavour and opted for the strong mix (1 sachet to 200ml of water) and it certainly was strong!! I watered it down a little and would assume that I had it at the full flavour strength which was perfect for me. It has a strong green tea 'bite' but the peach is able to shine through nicely, I added a little sugar because I do like my iced tea more on the sweet side. Is it as good as the bottled stuff I like to buy? I personally didn't think so but I think that is more related to not containing the same amount of sugar that I'm accustomed to, the flavour is definitely right and seriously delicious but after stirring in 2 teaspoons of sugar I couldn't bring myself to add more, it just seemed so wrong and got me thinking about how much sugar the bottled stuff contains. shudder

L-R: Keemun | Nepalese Ilam Tea | Ayurveda Herbal Blend

The team at Monstrositea have added little labels to the back of their tea sachets rather than numbering them, I love watching these guys evolve!

A Touch Of Tea Ayurveda Herbal Blend Inner Calmness - This was what I was hoping to find in the box, if you frequent on the BH forums you'll know I've been having a shitful time recently, I'm no longer feeling stressed constantly but in the last couple of days I've noticed my fuse is extremely short and constantly lit, the smallest things are setting me off and I'm finding it very difficult to not sweat the small stuff.
I brewed a cup of this as soon as I'd finished taking photos and I'm pleased to say I experienced results! I opted for 3/4 tsp because I was feeling like a lion with a thorn in his paw, mostly this tasted like a good chamomile to me, with the slightest hint of licorice, very easy to drink and before I'd even finished the cup I was able to have a conversation without wanting to yell at the person I was talking to. This one brews a super pretty transparent pastel pink, it had an awesome marbled effect as it was brewing, seriously gorgeous!

Monstrositea Keemun - Sipped a cup of this the morning after I received my package, or should I say, afternoon, since I slept so late. I had mine with a little sugar and milk but I always try my teas 'naked' first. The information leaflet mentions that it should have a sweet, smooth taste and while it was definitely smooth I didn't notice a sweetness until I added my sugar. For me this was a simple black tea that had me craving more after I'd finished my cup.

Special Everest Organic Nepalese Ilam Tea - This is fancy and limited edition ohh ahh. The leaflet says to brew 1/2 a teaspoon but since I'm hardcore I brewed a full teaspoon. After brewing I thought it looked a little pale but on my first sip I knew this tea had some cojones! If you like a mild flavoured tea then 1/2 a teaspoon is definitely the way to go, after adding my milk and sugar I was looking at a cup of tea that was almost white in colour but every time I took a sip I got a nice strong tea punch. So. Damn. Good.

If tea makes you happy then Monstrositea is definitely a subscription box to consider, every month they will send you a selection of teas to try (AKA soul hugging cups of love and goodness).
