Because why not?

Dermalogica - Daily Microfoliant.

3 April 2014
I've tried a few Dermalogica scrubs and loved them all so when I saw this included in my BiB prize pack I was super happy to have the opportunity to try another one.

What makes this exfoliant different is the fact that it's a powder and needs to be activated with water when used.

When the product is activated it is supposed to release Papain (enzyme found in papaya, great for exfoliating and also treating acne and blackheads as it helps to soften and break down the 'plug' and allows the gunk to be released, also good for killing bacteria, should be avoided if you are allergic to latex!), Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes. Also contains Green Tea, Ginko and Colloidal Oatmeal which help to calm the skin.

Dermalogica claim that it is gentle enough to use every day which I would agree with and even if it wasn't I'd be damn tempted to do so anyway. I like to use it in the morning but that's just personal preference (smooth base for my makeup is just too tempting), being a scrub junkie I also find myself resisting the overwhelming urge to use it during my evening cleanse as well, but too much exfoliation is bad mmkay so don't go overboard.

I've noticed in about the last month or so that the skin issues that I so painfully dealt with late last year are starting to come back, I have considered my options (going back on the medication or not going back on the medication) and have concluded that I'm not putting myself through that shit again and if the problem has returned then I need to work out a long term solution to it.

Enter stage left: Killer Products That Work.

After doing my ingredient research on this product I started using it exclusively, being a product that is aimed at daily use I knew I would have to use it this way to see results and I'm pleased to say that I am.

Aside from the usual things a scrub will do like keeping my skin soft and smooth, eliminating flakes of dry skin and ensuring a deep clean, I'm also finding that the congestion that has been growing on my chin has slowed down and extractions are easier after using the product (this is the time that I will swap it for night time use, it preps my skin perfectly for this).

When it comes to using the product I like to remove my makeup (if wearing any) and cleanse my skin, while my face is damp I puor a little of the product in to my palm, add a few drops of water and mix it in to a paste, I then dot it on my face and massage for a minute or so, when I'm done I rise with water and follow with my skin care routine.

It's not so full on that I feel like I'm sandblasting a layer of my skin off but it's not so gentle that I feel like it's a waste of space (one of those products being reviewed in the near future). As Goldilocks said "It's juuuust right"

This product is a little pricey at $71.00AUD for 75grams but the Dermalogica site often has GWP offers going on and unless you love to switch up your skincare often it is an investment worth considering.

Pros:
  • Gentle enough to use daily but effective enough to feel the wonderful smooth skin that we all love after just one use.
  • The bottle will last quite some time.

Cons:
  • The fact that you have to mix it up yourself can be tedious and won't suite the needs of everyone.

Conclusion:
I really love this stuff and I'm so glad I got to try it, Dermalogica seems to be a brand that just works for me and while most of their products are out of my currently acceptable price range I wouldn't hesitate to repurchase when my bank account is looking a little happier. I often recommend the brand to clients when they ask for advice about their skin, although I'm not an Esthetician it's very common for me to receive questions pertaining to skincare and when a brand delivers results I feel confident recommending it.

  1. Ive just started using mine from my BIB box too, I like it a lot- only downfall for me is the price and I sometimes get the opening congested when a little bit of water gets in which is slightly annoying haha

    1. I'm always terrified that I'll spill it! I keep it well away from the sink so haven't had issues with getting water in it but I can imagine that would be very annoying!
