Because why not?

Covergirl - Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation.

8 April 2014
After seeing so many rave reviews about the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation I decided I had to try it, I feel like I've become a bit of a foundation snob over the years, I tried so many bad middle of the road foundations (drug store for anyone wondering what I'm talking about but I refuse to use that word any more because it makes me picture people going in for methadone treatment) that just looked rubbish on the skin but it dawned on me that I would be spending a damn lot of money each year if I only reviewed high-end foundations so I had to get of my prissy little pedestal and start finding the awesome little gems hiding in Priceline.

I picked up 842 which is a spot on match for me but I can see the colour range being a massive problem for a lot of women, there are only 6 colours in the range and that means if one doesn't match you perfectly you're probably going to feel like you can't choose one from the range. My advice would be to start mixing 2 colours to find a combination that works for you but I can't see this being something that women really want to do.

The packaging is ok, for an inexpensive product it is what I would expect, it doesn't look exceptionally pretty or chic but don't let it's appearance fool you. I noticed while swatching shades instore that many of the lids would just fall off, being plastic they seem to crack easily and this loosens the seal they get when they clip over the glass packaging, mine has yet to develop this problem but I would be mindful of this problem if you decided to put it in your bag, ever tried to clean a foundation spill out of a bag lining?

The formula it's self is really nice, it has a slight suncreen scent to it which is no surprise as it contains a broad spectrum SPF 20, the consistency is of a medium thickness and it will run on the hand but not excessively, so you don't have to fear accidentally dropping it on your carpet while applying.

I like to apply it with a fluffy brush but it goes on with fingers just as nicely, it dries fairly quickly but allows enough working time to blend it out without having to be in a rush. It dries matte and looks so nice on the skin, the coverage is medium/full and you can build it up if you're that way inclined but do be careful to blend it properly unless you want to look cakey. I find one layer is fantastic, it covers enough of what I don't want people to see while still allowing my skin to look like skin, when I want extra coverage I go in with spot concealing but rarely feel I need it.

This foundation is going to suit oily/combination skin best, it controls shine so well! Normal skin is also going to be able to rock this well but if you have dry skin you're going to have problems, it does grab on to dry patches but that is pretty standard with formulas like this.
I have normal skin which sometimes takes a walk on the dry side, I find this looks perfect on me when I apply a layer of rosehip oil under my moisturiser, something that I would never usually recommend but after waking up tired one day and fucking up my morning skin care routine I discovered it worked brilliantly, this also gives the foundation the 'skin' look, providing coverage without looking like makeup. The longevity of the foundation is fantastic, usually I'll have it on for up to 10-12 hours and it always looks great at the end of the day, it's lightweight, comfortable and doesn't make me want to wash my face half way through the day

Close Up.
This is certainly a favourite product of mine at the moment, and at only $19.95 a bottle from Priceline it's not going to break the bank to try it out!

Pros:

  • Medium/full coverage without looking painted on.
  • Looks like skin.
  • Wears fantastically and feels comfortable.
  • Inexpensive.

Cons:

  • The packaging isn't super pretty and the caps have a tendency to lose their grip.

Conclusion:
I fucking love this stuff, Covergirl have smashed it out of the park with this foundation as far as I'm concerned and I would never have thought they would make such a nice foundation. This is one I will keep in my stash and will soon have to pop out and buy a winter shade because it seriously shits all over some of the high end foundations I've tried.

  2. I was thinking about buying this foundation but I've hesitated because I suspected it wouldn't be good for dry skin like mine. Recently, I've wasted money in foundations looking cake-y on my dry skin, so I have appreciated this review.

    1. Yeah it's definitely not the best for dry skin, it would be fine if there were no dry, flaky patches but they can be common in people with dry skin so it wouldn't be on my recommendation list, no one wants to buy a foundation they can only wear on *some* days.

  3. Everyone is raving about this, it look/sounds SO good! Great review!! Sadly I doubt the limited colour range would cater for my skin tone, but maybe one day.

    1. Yeah the colour range is a problem, I really think it would be worth Covergirl's time to expand on it!

    1. Same here! Never really liked their stuff and the first few reviews I saw for this stuff I thought must have been promoted but good things just kept popping up so I had to give it a go and I was blown away!

  5. This is my fave right now!! Great pick, it's so lovely and my shade is too light and I'm just waiting for another $10 sale so I can get the right shade haha. I had heard it oxidised on people so I got a shade lighter and it didn't darken enough!

Did you find there was any foundation oxidation for you? Fabulous review and hair :)

    1. Oh I sure know how to be eloquent, "Did you find there was any foundation oxidation for you?"

Sorry, I meant to ask if your foundation oxidised :)

    2. No, not any more than most foundations and definitely not enough to recommend going a shade lighter. It's always a gamble buying a foundation from reading reviews sadly :( Do you think it would be suitable for you during winter?
