Because why not?

Salon Melbourne 2014 Haul.

24 March 2014
So I took myself off to Salon Melbourne today, for anyone curious about what that is it's an industry professional trade show, we get to watch product demonstrations and have the opportunity to purchase products at trade/wholesale/lower prices. It's a good time, I can tell you that much for free but I also came away with aches and pains all over, a bit of a headache and what I can only describe as mild shock and exhaustion.

I had every intention of taking a million photos for you all to see and I took exactly zero. I didn't plan my trip well and I was laden with bags and my jacket just minutes after walking through the door. Now that I'm home, sitting on my bed in my trackies and hoodie, sipping a cup of tea, I can picture how I could have done it better.. By taking a donkey to carry all my crap.

First stop was Dermalogica (after I had been attacked by a lady with glitter), I wandered around slowly until I spotted their stall and made my purchase, I had cleaned out my bank account so I could keep track of what I was spending and didn't try to make a purchase that my funds wouldn't cover. Turns out Dermalogica only took card payments. I was disappointed and knew I was going to have to walk around in the city until I found a bank but the girl at the register said "No, I can't make you walk out there in the rain again, give me the cash and I'll use my card". Seriously, what a sweetheart, bless that girl! She also threw in a little trial pack of goodies so I ended up with the Skinperfect Primer that I had been coveting along with travel sized Daily Microfoliant, Multi-Active Toner and Skin Hydrating Booster.
The primer retails for $60something AUD and I picked it up for $42ish AUD.

I spotted the Baby Foot stall and I couldn't resist, I picked up 2 for $40 AUD and I believe they retail for $29.99 AUD each.

Cosmetiques de France were showcasing a few products and I decided I had to try the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse, the 100ml bottle set me back $30 AUD and the SA threw in a few samples for me to try out.

At the Inglot display I seriously considered picking up a 40 pan freedom palette but the crowd was turning me off so I just picked up a bottle of Duraline which was an absolute necessity, this retails for $19 AUD and I picked it up for $13 AUD.

My most expensive single item purchase for the day was the Christian Professional Eyebrow Kit which contains 8 brow powders, a double ended brush and three stencils, while stencils aren't really my cup of tea they do come in handy when your model rocks up sans brows. This kit was $60 AUD, the single powders retail for $42 AUD each so this was a pretty good fucking amazing deal.

Christian Professional Eyebrow Kit.

I thought I would go mad buying brushes but I didn't spot much that really caught my eye, I really wanted the Rae Morris Magnetic Collection Starter Kit but by the time I spotted it I had blown almost my whole budget, the Precision Bent-Liner was an absolute must have and has been on my want list for a long time, the discount was only 10% so this one cost me $18 AUD.

Crown Brush kind of did my head in with the crowd so I just grabbed a few backups of brushes I already liked, setting me back a measly $16 AUD.

Lime Crime was where I started to feel like I'd had enough for the day, the crowd was bad! I had a general idea of what I wanted so when one of the SA's asked if I wanted to look at anything in particular I gave her my little mental list and she came back with my goodies. I picked up two lipsticks ($14 AUD each) in Centrifuchsia and Poisonberry and the Aquataenia Palette ($24 AUD).

I went back to the lady who assaulted me with glitter when I first walked through the door, I did intend to pick up some cosmetic glitter while there and I felt the deal she was offering was the best (also I had been eyeing off Eye Kandy products online recently, the package contained 5 glitter tubs, sealer, mixing tub and a brush for $50 AUD.
Back left: Cetrifuchsia. Back right: Poisonberry.

Eye Kandy Kit. Top to bottom: Gum Drops, Chicklets, Tangerine Twist, Marshmallow and Honey Drop.

Tangle Teezer got me! $45 AUD for the three items. It was an easy sale, love their brushes.

My last stop for the day was Eleven, I felt a little awkward to be honest, most of the SA's were attractive young men and one swooped on me straight away while another kept calling me 'beauty' as I browsed the products, the trade off was three products for $30 so I think I got the better end of that deal. I opted for the 3 Minute Repair, Wash Me All Over and Miracle Hair Treatment. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A DECENT CREAM LEAVE IN PRODUCT FOR WEEKS!!! Yes, yelling was necessary. So much excite.

So I spent a decent chunk of change today but I'm happy with my purchases so there are no complaints there!

Did you go to Salon Melbourne this year??

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

    1. Haha! It's very much like that Rose! I did a little survey about the event on the way out and mentioned that a cloak room service would have been useful, I think I could have shopped for longer if I had a place to store all my stuff!

    1. She was a gem Catherine! It would have been extremely annoying having to walk around to find a bank so I could use my card but I still don't regret leaving the credit card at home because I would have spent way too much money. Next year I think I'll drive in so I can pop stuff in the car, carrying everything was the hardest part and I felt so rude when I'd bump people with my bags!
