Because why not?

Herbal Essences - Hello Hydration Rinse Off Treatment.

18 March 2014
Usually when I buy products that have been on the market for a while I don't have the intention of reviewing them unless I find them worth a good (or bad) wrap, when I chose to buy this product I expected it to be just ok.

Herbal Essence has been around for a long time (since 1972) and apparently in 2013 they started using an old formula for the product, I'm kind of thinking this was a really smart move because their products are surprisingly good.

I don't know about you guys but I don't like spending $40 on a good hydrating treatment for my hair, it shits me, the cost of living is high and my pockets aren't deep enough and in the end they can only do so much for the hair and it all boils down to basically the same results. When I find a product that makes my hair feel soft, shiny and smooth for under $10 I want to scream it from the roof tops (or blog about it).

This hair treatment has the consistency of a thick conditioner and it smells like holidays, coconut and orchid to be exact.

Herbal Essences recommend using just once a week which I would have to agree with if you have pretty happy hair, when I first used this product my hair was in a bit of a shitty state so I used it twice, if you have massive dehydration then I wouldn't fear using it twice a week, leaving in for as long as you can before rinsing, once you see some restoration using just once a week would suffice.

On first use I actually left this in for over an hour, I was toning my hair and had run out of my usual conditioner so added a squeeze of this to finish the job. when I rinsed my hair I was wondering why it was so soft and it wasn't until after my hair had dried that I really noticed the difference in the level of frizz and dryness, when you are so use to taming colour/bleach damaged hair it can be quite a shock to look in the mirror and find hair that appears to be healthy.

I'd recommend this to anyone with dehydrated hair from colouring, bleaching or heat styling. If you need a serious moisture surge I'd say the best way to use this is to shampoo your hair, get out of the shower or bath, towel dry it and apply the treatment, wait an hour or so and rinse it out (wrapping your hair in glad wrap is beneficial also) . I've used it in the shower, leaving it in for just a few minutes and the results are just ok, if you want to get the most out of this product it needs to be left in for an extended period.

Although damaged hair can't be repaired, moisture can be restored and when hair is well hydrated it can really help the hair to look a hell of a lot more appealing! The product claims "Up to 100% softer hair in one wash" and while I don't know how to scientifically measure that to agree with it completely I can say that it most definitely leaves the hair considerably softer and looking more hydrated.

Pros:
  • Smells so good.
  • Hydrates well and is amazing when left in for a long period.
  • Leaves dry hair feeling soft, smooth and looking shiny.
  • Helps hair to appear healthier.
  • Super inexpensive, ranges from $5 - $10AUD, depending on where you buy it, for $180ml.

Cons:
  • I really can't think of any!

Conclusion:
I love this stuff, I'm kind of feeling like it's a Holy Grail product for me considering the price and the results I can get with it.

Do you have a favourite deep conditioning treatment that is wallet friendly?

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. I usually prefer salon brands, but Herbal Essences are awesome value for money. I like the Hello Hydration shampoo & conditioner, so I'll definitely give this a try. I've been looking for a hair mask. My hair is feeling a bit dry from swimming in the pool.

    1. I usually go for salon brands too Rose but I often find I'm disappointed as the results aren't much better than the cheaper options. I definitely recommend trying this out, don't bother using it in the shower though, the results aren't as exciting, leave it in for an hour or more after shampooing and you'll have really good results!

    2. I went looking for this today, but couldn't find it anywhere! I looked in Woolies, Coles, Target, BigW and the chemist. Oh well, I'll keep searching.

    3. Try Chemist Warehouse if you have one near by Rose!

  2. Sadly, I have always snubbed this brand. Seeing as you are considering HG status, I must try this product!

    1. I snubbed it too Indie, same as Pantene (which I still don't really like). When I got a bottle of the Honey I'm Strong Shampoo in the BiB prize I was surprised at how much I liked it so I grabbed this along with a bunch of more expensive products when shopping for hair helpers and I gotta say this was the best buy out of all of the products. For someone who's hair resembles Einstein's this has been a huge help, anything that will make my hair feel soft and silky and help the frizz appearance is a winner for me. Grab it at Chemist Warehouse, it's cheaper and often on sale ;)
