Because why not?

Garnier - Body Tonic Sugar Scrub.

29 March 2014
Another product I scored in my BiB prize and one I wouldn't have purchased of my own accord, not being a huge fan of Garnier products, I expected little and received a lot.

Right on the front of the packaging it says " Immediate Smoothing Effectiveness", I think this should be a given for body exfoliators but lets face it they don't always deliver, this is not one of those products. This is Killer.

This is a sugar based body scrub and it scrubs like few others, really leaving the skin silky, smooth and oh so wonderfully soft. How the sugar doesn't dissolve I have no clue and frankly, I don't care enough to do anything more than a quick Google search, when it came back with no immediate results other than recipes on making your own sugar scrub I decided it was a mystery I didn't need to solve.

I would liken this to Puretopia's Glowingly Smooth Exfoliating & Renewing Body Polish (my HG), the only difference being the scent and cost.

Garnier Body Tonic Sugar Scrub retails for $11.99 and smells of oranges and lemons so if citrus is your thing you'll love this (Puretopia retails for $14.95 and they say it smells like lime, lemongrass and ginger but to me it smells like Mexican Cola and sometimes I just want to eat it).

The consistency of the product is pretty typical of a body scrub, a fluid gel like base containing the exfoliating particles.

Best way to use this? Squeeze it on a wet shower mitt and go to town, I find using an amount about the size of a 50 cent piece does my whole body but I'm short so adjust as necessary.

It foams up quite nicely without being OTT and not only leaves the skin feeling lush and soft but also clean, it makes light work of sunscreen too!

Pros:
  • Works so well, really does exfoliate the skin and leaves it feeling like silk.
  • Fairly inexpensive.
  • A little goes a long way.

Cons:
  • The scent, but that is purely personal, I don't hate it but it's not one I actively look for in products.

Conclusion:
I would absolutely buy this again, regardless of the citrus scent, if I was repurchasing a body scrub and this was on sale I would buy it without thinking twice, but if I was paying RRP I would go for my Puretopia favourite simply because my nose prefers it and the price difference is small enough for me to not fuss over it.

Have you tried the Body Tonic Sugar Scrub, what are your thoughts?

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. I've never had any luck with Garnier products either, but this does sound pretty good. I like a nice scrubby body scrub. I really like the Dirty Works coconut one. It's only $8 too. Bargain!
