Because why not?

Essence - Studio Nails Pro White Effect.

25 March 2014
I'm not sure why I bought this product.. Actually that's a lie, the internet made me buy it and so did the Priceline 40% off sale, I'd seen some good reviews and figured for less than $1 I couldn't really go wrong.

This clear, purple tinted polish is supposed to help with yellow nails. I don't consider my nails to be exceptionally yellow but they aren't what I would consider white either.

There isn't really anything super special about this product, the packaging is visually appealing, the brush and consistency of the polish is standard, it dries quickly and it essentially does what it says it will do. But it's just clever.

It claims:
Nail whitener with anti-yellowing formulation. Optically brightens nails. For naturally bright, white nails. Usable for natural and artificial nails. Fast drying.

Let me explain how and why this works: Purple neutralises yellow. Done.

Artificial light.

Natural light.

Since this polish has a purple tint to it the yellow tones found in nails are muted, causing the natural white tones of the nail to be more prominent. The results are best viewed in natural light as this enhances the tones of the purple, muting the yellow even more.

Clever.

Pros:
  • It works, it won't make your nails a 'whiter than white' but it will help them to appear brighter.

Cons:
  • I find the polish starts to chip or peel fairly quickly on me (after about 2 days).

Conclusion:
This retails for less than $2 so you can't really go wrong. If you deal with really yellow nails this will help to minimise it but it isn't a miracle product, when you remove the polish your nails will be the same as they were before you applied it.

Yellow nails giving you issues? Scrubbing them with a little whitening toothpaste and a scrubbing brush can help too!
