Because why not?

Tangle Teezer - Salon Elite.

7 February 2014
We're all well aware of Tangle Teezers. I was always curious about them but they weren't really something that I needed, my hair didn't tangle easily and if it did I could brush it out in seconds. I simply did not need a Tangle Teezer, now I know what you're thinking, what sort of weirdo beauty blogger doesn't buy the latest and greatest thing?? That would be me, I am that weirdo beauty blogger, I only buy stuff when I need it, need it or NEED IT. Yes they all have different meanings, I'm not going to spell it out because women already know what I'm talking about and just in case a man stumbles across this; I can't give away all our secrets.

Tangle Teezer Salon Elite.
After I started on the journey to bleached blonde hair some things changed, most notably the fact that my hair would tangle in to dreadlocks just by looking at it. I only battled with this for a few days before destiny stepped in.

I made a trip down to a local salon, heading out in Camberwell, specifically for some Kerastase products, while I was there I had a lovely colourist talk to me about my hair, unfortunately the salons prices were way out of my budget which was a little disappointing for me, I felt safe in her hands and to be honest I wanted her to work on it, I just simply could not afford it. While sitting in her chair my eyes were attracted to something shiny and colourful.. "Oh mah gawd, that's a Tangle Teezer! I'll take one of those too please", the lovely gentleman who had helped me select a Kerastase product that would suit my needs went through the colour options and while Black was my inital selection I went for the pink and purple 'cos this little lady likes a bit of colour.

Now if I remember correctly these were retailing for $29.95, as soon as I got it home I pulled it out and gingerly tried to comb through my hair. I suspected it would work but I didn't expect it to work so well, seriously it glided through my hair like I imagine Prince Flynn's fingers would glide through Rapunzel's hair.

Where I did develop a stubborn tange (let's face it, my hair is going through a shit storm of torture at the moment, there will be tangles no matter what), I was able to section out the hair and just gently tease it out with my new miracle tool, where there should have been tugging, pulling and snapping there was slipping, gliding and.. non-snapping? Whatever, you get the point.

It's gentle enough to use on wet hair too, which I like to do as I use a lot of leave in products and brushing them through damp hair helps to make sure they are evenly distributed. This is actually where the Tangle Teezer excels for me, I like to brush my hair when it's wet but I know it's a really stupid thing to do when you have damaged hair, now I don't have to worry. Tangle Teezer do sell a specific brush for use on wet hair, it's called the Aqua splash and I think I need one of those too, when I love something I want more, More, MORE!

The only downside to the Tangle Teezer is the shape of the brush, it's annoying and if you have small hands like me it's going to take some getting use to. The size of the Salon Elite Tangle Teezer is perfect for at home use, a travel one is going to be more bag friendly though, I have every intention of picking up a travel size for my bag because this is one tool that I'm sad to leave the house without.

So if you have dry/damaged/brittle hair or hair that tangles and knots easily then this is a tool for you. Order it online, go to your local Heading Out salon, whatever, just buy the damn thing, you need it, I'm not kidding.

Have you tried a Tangle Teezer or a comparable product? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I also find that it's too big for my small hands, so I bought the travel size and it's perfect!
