Because why not?

FOTD - Valentine!

12 February 2014
I feel a bit silly doing a FOTD but I wanted to at least do something to show that I'm not a Bitter Betty towards this 'special day' (by the way, I am a Bitter Betty and I don't like Valentines Day, I have yet to create a memory of a lovely Valentines Day to tell my kids when I finally have them and therefor I'm pissed), so I thought I would show you the look I would wear if I had something special to do.

Just so we are clear, I don't like pink on the eyes, I associate it with being ill and it's the first colour I go for when I'm doing a Halloween look or I need to make someone look sick. Now pink on the eyes can most certainly be done well and I have seen some smashing V-day looks but it grinds my gears when I see girls walking around looking like they have hay fever because they took the pink a little too far, I have a tendency to want to run after them with a pot of gel liner and an angled brush screaming "Let me help you!!" Ok lets move on from this.

First I started by priming the face with Benefit The Porefessional and then dabbed a little of Illamasqua's Cream Pigment in Emerge on the dark areas under my eyes to try to camouflage my dark circles, I finished my base with Giorgio Armani Designer Lift Foundation.

For the eyes I primed with Urban Decay's Primer Potion and applied Urban Decay Half Baked all over the mobile lid using a patting motion to build up an intense gold colour, I finished off the shadow by blending it in to my socket a little and moved on to lining the upper lash line with Flormar Matte Eyeshadow in Black. After lining my lower waterline with Rimmel's Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Liner in 005 Nude I applied Benefit's They're Real Mascara (don't forget to occasionally stab yourself in the eye with the torture device wand because it wouldn't be pretty if there is no pain involved).

Brows were brushed up and then attacked with Australis' Tint My Brow in Blonde and then combed in to place using a brow and lash comb. I applied a little swish of Essence Silky Touch Blush in 50 Sweetheart to my cheeks because the name is so damn fitting for V-day and then dabbed a tiny bit of Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 005 Crush to my lips for a very subtle touch of colour, best friggin' lip product ever.

After completing my look I sat in my room and cursed Valentines Day just a bit more.

Tell me your V-Day date fail story, I need to know I'm not the only one who suffers this way!

  1. This is such a great read Hailey, and by far my favorite V-Day post:-) No fail story to relate as I've never been with a fella who believes in it, but then neither do I. And I'm with you on the pink shadow thingy - placement makes it or breaks it, and shouldn't be attempted by the uninitiated, and then only in small doses.
You have such a great face hon...xxx

  2. No terrible V-Day in particular, tho, I've had many a lonely one. These days, hubby and I usually use V-Day as an excuse to gorge on yummy choccies in bed, away from the prying eyes of the kids, lol.
Your look is amazing, perfect for any special occasion :)

    1. hahaha I'm so gonna sit in bed and eat junk food all day! I think your V-Day plans are great, it's not really about going out and being spoilt, it's about spending time with the one you love :)
