Because why not?

David Jones Deluxe Sampler Tote Autumn/Winter 2014.

6 February 2014
With David Jones Beauty Book being released comes the Deluxe Sampler Tote. With any beauty purchase you qualify to also purchase the tote for $19.95 and have two options so the contents can be somewhat tailored to the type of products you would like to receive

So I got up nice and early yesterday and head off to my local David Jones, I was excited about grabbing the tote because option B was full of stuff I was keen to try. After purchasing the tote I dropped it off at home and went out again to run other errands, after getting home I had a quick peek at the bag and realised that I had grabbed option A... Swearing and annoyance ensued, mum suggested taking it back and seeing if they would exchange it but we were already running late for an event at Chadstone and I wasn't sure they would be willing to do that so I didn't bother. While we were on our way to Chadstone I said I was considering just buying another one, mum agreed this was a good idea as she was lusting over the Glasshouse candle I had purchased to qualify for the bag and wanted one herself. The deal was done and we rushed in to David Jones shortly before it closed to make the purchase. The kind lady laughed at my story of stupidity and said they would happily have exchanged it and mum and I had a moment of slumped shoulders and sighing. All was not lost though when mum said to me "I'm so glad I got that candle". I'm taking this as Divine Intervention, mum got something she loved, I got extra things to play with and you guys get to see exactly what's in both options.

Both option A and B contain these items:

  • David Jones Beauty Milk & Honey Body Wash 60ml.
  • David Jones Beauty Milk & Honey Moisturising Cream 60ml.
  • Scottish Fine Soaps Au Lait Body Milk 50ml.
  • Kosmea Rosehip Oil 3ml.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer 3.75ml.
  • Kiehl's Powerful Wrinkle and Por Reducing Cream 7ml.

The Milk & Honey products smell so damn good and the moisturiser is quite nice, has medium consistency and feels great on the skin.

Scottish Fine Soaps Body Milk is kind of not my thing, it has a runny consistency which is fine with me but the smell is way too much, reminds me of Grandmothers, it's strong and lingers on the skin. Did leave my skin feeling nice and soft though.

The Rosehip oil samples are so damn cute, tiny little glass bottles with screw off mini eye dropper caps, I really love a sample that makes you feel like the company give a crap about packaging and these ones hit that mark perfectly

My OPI colour in bag A was Suzi and the & Dusseldorfs, in bag B I ended up with Just Spotted The Lizard, If you're wondering how to find out the name of the colour you received just google the letters and numbers found on the bottom of the bottle eg: NL M36.

The Kiehl's cream is something I'm keen to try, it kind of smells minty and has a cooling effect.

Option A

  • Natio Skin Nutrition Body Cream 150g (full size) - Smells a bit like lavender and absorbs well.
  • Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night Cream 7ml.
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo in Original 30g.
  • LDN: Skins Self Tan Lotion 60ml.
  • Green People Moisturising Shower Gel 30ml. Totally smells Green.
  • In Essence Aromatic Oil Blend 9ml. I receive Tahitian Escape with Frangipani, Jasmine, Patchouli and Orange.
  • Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap34g. I received Peppermint.

Option B

  • Natio Spa Recovery Hand Scrub 90g (full size). Bit of a gimmicky product I reckon, not sure why the hands need a separate scrub but I'm keen to give it a try regardless.
  • Live Clean Fresh Face Soothing Daily Moisturiser 30ml.
  • Weleda Skin Food 10ml. Not sure if it's aimed to be used on the face or body, research required.
  • Laura Mercier Foundation Primer 14.7ml. Nice sized sample, smells not great but I'm keen to give it a try.
  • Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant 15ml. This was missing from my bag but in it's place I had a 5ml sample of the Overnight Repair Serum and a 10ml sample of Antioxidant Hydramist, while I was keen to try the scrub I'm quite happy to receive these instead.
  • Aveda Invati Shampoo & Conditioner 10ml each.
  • The Balm Hot Mama Shadow/Blush 1g. Again super cute packaging and even has a magnetic closure. Well done The Balm.
  • This pack also contained a small sample pot to take to Laura Mercier for a foundation sample and a card offering to be professionally matched to the concealer and powder from the range that would best suit you. Demalogica also provided a card for a 20 minute consultation that includes a microZone treatment.

The tote bag is cute and in my opinion totally usable. The black PVC bag doesn't feel exceptionally cheap, is lined on the inside, has a phone pocket and button closure, the detail on the front is of a gold background with laser cut circles producing an old school David Jones building. The more I look at it the more I like it!

Did you pick up a tote this time around? Which is your preferred option?

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. Great post, This time DJ sampler tote is great and worth buying. Dermalogica samples look so good, you have more products to try. I think both option are good enough. A is more suitable for skin care lovers while B is for makeup lovers.

  2. Well thanks David for some world-class range of skin products you have recommended in option A. I find these products effective for my skin. The skin nutrition body cream and specially that aromatic oil blend is something I just simply love!!!
