Because why not?

Australis - Tint My Brow.

19 February 2014
Ahh brows, sometimes I feel like the beauty world revolves around them, people (beauty mags) like to have a good old bitch about how thin hers are, how sparse those ones look and how unruly everyone else's are. The way I see it; brows are personal and it's nobody's fucking business other than your on how you choose to wear your brows, after all they are your brows, you own them and you do what you please with them!

Something that frustrates me with my brows is that they can tend to move around if they aren't strapped to my face, I get little rogue hairs that like to leave their family and poke in all sorts of directions, up towards my hair line, down towards my eyes and occasionally straight out from my face like they are trying to make a break for it. Usually I use a clear brow gel to keep them in place but since going blonde I've felt like they are slightly too dark for my taste and using a clear brow gel helps to enhance their natural colour depth, I considered bleaching them until I had a little mishap where mum got a little dollop of bleach on the end of my right brow while helping me with my hair, after wiping it off I was left with an orange tip at the end of my brow and I knew it could turn in to a disaster I wasn't willing to live with if I attempted to bleach them so I thought I'd try out Australis' Tint My Brow instead.

I picked up Blonde but the product also comes in Light Brown and Dark Brown and on first use I was in love!

The product comes in a soft plastic tube with a screw in mascara type applicator, I'd heard that the product was messy and the brush too large and I can see where the reviewers were coming from, I don't want to discount these user experiences because a truly amazing product is universally user friendly but this product takes a little 'tip & trick' knowledge to get the best use out of it (and I'm hoping my advice can help the non-lovers to perhaps feel like they could at least use the product up without wanting to throw it out the window every time they pick it up).

Being a brow tint it is not supposed to fill in sparse areas of the brows, it is supposed to add colour to the existing hair and hold them in place. If you have spaces that need to be filled leave that to the brow powders and pencils, they are made for this job and they do it well, fill your sparse areas first and then move on to the brow tint.

I found the best way to use this product is to brush the brows up using a separate brow and lash comb, gently brush the brow tint on to the hairs, following the upward direction that the hairs are currently laying in and avoiding letting the brush touch your actual skin, since the hairs are brushed away from the way they naturally lay they will sit in a prime position for making the hairs easier to hit and the skin easier to avoid. Take your separate brow and lash comb and brush the hairs back in to the place that they naturally sit, wait a few seconds for the product to set and you're done!

You now have brows with a natural looking tint and they won't move until you remove the product. This would be best suited to natural blondes who have gone darker with their hair colour and don't want to mess around with colouring their brows, it's also great for adding a subtle fullness to the existing hairs on the brows, since the product contains colour pigment you get a little extra something that clear brow gels don't offer. I find using a lighter colour on my darker brows offers a very subtle light dimension to my brows and since I want to avoid anything that will make them appear darker the blonde is absolutely perfect for me.

Pros:
  • Adds a natural tint to brows.
  • Holds brows in place all day long.
  • Cute packaging.

Cons:
  • Can be difficult to work with.
  • Can be messy.

Conclusion:
After reading a lot of reviews I suspected I might regret this purchase but I really love this stuff, it does it's job really well but I can understand why people are finding it messy and not worth the trouble, the technique I use to apply it is how I would work on any brows so props need to go to my trainers for that one!

Have you tried the Australis Tint My Brow? What are your thoughts?
