Because why not?

Sanctuary Spa - Spa Essentials Body Scrub.

21 November 2013
Sanctuary Spa is one of those brands that appears to me like it would be really effective, super high quality and give a lot of high end brands a run for their money. I'm not sure what makes me think this, probably a combination of the brand name and mostly elegant, yet simple packaging.

When I realised there was a tube of the Sanctuary Spa Body Scrub in my Priceline Goodie Bag I was pretty excited to try it, after finishing my HG scrub (which I should probably review..) I excitedly put the Sanctuary Spa scrub in my shower and waited with anticipation to finally use it. Have you ever purposely tried to get dirty just so you could use a new product? I have. I do. I will.

The product claims to:
'.. buff the skin, keeping it radiant, invigorated and smooth.'
Therapist's Tip: 'Finish you shower with a blast of cold water - as cold as you dare to tone your skin, close your pores and awaken your senses.

On first use I noticed that this scrub doesn't foam up very well, which I thought was really weird as it contains surfactants, After I scrubbed a leg with my body mitt I had to apply more product for the other leg and then again for each arm and my torso, I had used a lot of product with just one wash. After rinsing I felt clean but that was it, my skin wasn't exceptionally silky and soft which I have come to expect since using my HG scrub, I was disappointed.

I didn't bother with the therapists tip, we are having bipolar weather around these parts and it's still damn cold more often than not. Also you can't open and close pores or tone the skin on command with cold water and if I want to awaken my senses I'll have a cup of coffee, thanks.

Another thing that didn't have me jumping with joy was the scent, a combination of orange and patchouli which are both very distinct but the combination just doesn't do it for me, I can see it being divine for many though so if you aren't sure try to get a whiff in store before you buy.

The texture is nice enough, an orange tinted gel with a generous amount of pumice grains, which do feel like they are doing a good job of buffing away the dead skin cells and perhaps they are, I believe the product is just missing a skin softening ingredient that adds to the silky feeling after use that many body scrubs have to offer, this isn't actually a huge deal and there are, no doubt, people who are going to love this scrub.

The scent doesn't linger on the body which I'm actually grateful for and doesn't often happen with body washes/scrubs anyway, after drying off my skin doesn't feel super dry, I'm not rushing for the moisturiser but neither does it feel hydrated.

The scrub claims to be gentle enough to use every day, whatever floats your boat, I've not tried using it every day because I don't think my skin needs to be scrubbed to within an inch of it's life on a daily basis but it does feel nice and gentle so I would be comfortable agreeing with this claim.

All in all this isn't a horrible product but it certainly isn't my favourite, as you can see my bottle is almost empty and I've only been using it a few weeks, if you take in to consideration that I don't use it every time I shower and that my usual scrub lasts me at least 2 months then you can probably understand why this is an issue for me, at $15 a tube I just don't think it's worth it .

Does this make me think less of Sanctuary Spa as a brand? No, certainly not, I still look forward to trying more of their products but this one won't get a look in next time I'm browsing for a new scrub to try. Also the scent is wafting towards me as I sit here and type this up after photographing the product and I really dislike the stink.

Have you tried this scrub, what are your thoughts? Do you have a favourite Sanctuary Spa product you would recommend?

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.
