Because why not?

Saturday Sample.

26 October 2013
It's the freakin' weekend and time for another Saturday Sample!!

I actually wanted to post this last week but I was lazy. I was also drinking and watching the Caulfield Cup but mostly I was just lazy.

I love Dermalogica. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Love.

I've had this little sample of Dermalogica's Pre Cleanse for a while and finally got around to using it.
At first I hated this product. Hated. It.
It was horrible.
The worst ever.

Then I decided I could tolerate it, and the next time I used it I thought it was actually kind of ok, then I felt a slight desire to use it, eventually I liked it and considered buying a full size bottle, finally I fell in love and had dreams of frolicking through a field of daisies with my mini bottle of pre cleanse.

If you've not heard of pre cleanse before it's basically a way of removing makeup that's really gentle on your skin and awesomely dry skin friendly. Those makeup wipes and remover fluids aren't going to do you any favours if you have dry skin issues so I suggest you put them down and back away from the hateful things (or don't, it's your choice! Any of the makeup wipe mafia who are getting annoyed don't need to bark at me about it).

Dermalogica's pre cleanse is an oil cleanser, I can't show you the fluid because I used it all. Yeah, I'm selfish like that. I can tell you that it's a clear oil with a light botanical smell.

You position yourself in front of a mirror with your full face of makeup and add a few drops to your finger tips and gently massage it over your face, your foundation will start to look amazing and you'll have thoughts of incorporating this in to your morning makeup routine (jokes. Do. Not. Do. That). The oil will dissolve your makeup, including that stubborn eye crap that I just have to wear every damn day, then you just put a few drops of water on your face and massage again, the oil will become a milky colour, combined with the colours you were wearing on your face and finally you take a hot wash cloth, wring out the excess water and wipe away the crap on your face.

There's some other stuff you should know though:

  • If you get it in your eyes (and you will, because it's shit like that), you'll have blurry vision for a few minutes but funnily enough it didn't sting my eyes.
  • It can be emulsified (made milky with water) and then rinsed of with water but the wash cloth will leave your skin so soft and lovely, you're missing out if you don't give it a go.
  • It's not a be-all-end-all cleanser, it is a pre cleanse, just like those horrid makeup wipes or your standard (not so horrid) fluid makeup remover. This means you should still wash your face with your usual face was after using this product.
  • Oil cleansers are great for dry skin, they are also suitable for normal and oily skin.
  • If your skin feels oily after using it then you didn't emulsify it properly. Your skin should feel soft after using it but also clean, your second cleanse with your usual cleanser makes sure anything you missed is washed away.
  • If you wear makeup or sunscreen then you should be double cleansing and most likely already are, using makeup wipes of fluid remover is step one of your double cleanse and your face wash is step two.
The main reason I hated this was the fact that it can be messy, it also took me a few uses to know how much to use and I got it in my eyes every single time I used it, but I got use to all that, my skin loved it so I learnt to appreciate that and in turn loved it myself.

This tiny little 15ml bottle lasted me weeks so don't fear the pricetag ($51.00 for 150ml).

Any cleansing oil recommendations for me? I've spotted a few in store and have a cheaper brand to try out but I'm worried I've been spoilt by Dermalogica.

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. I got a sample bottle of this in the David Jones sampler tote but I keep forgetting to try it! It's not something I normally use so it keeps getting overlooked, I must get it out and put it somewhere obvious so I remember to use it, I've heard wonderful things about this stuff.

    1. You must try it! I can totally see people not liking this product for a few reasons but it's worth trying even just for a change up in the way you wash your face, it's kind of fun but also a pain in the ass and I like that hahaha

  2. I was really surprised at how much I liked this. I've seen good reviews on it, but already had my holy grail cleansing oils and was using the sample purely to get rid of it. So I was shocked that I realllllllly love this.

I don't need any cleansing oil atm, but would purchase this when I run out.

    1. Yup, I have a huge bottle of another cleansing oil to get through but I still have this one on my mind when I go to wash my face so I think I'll be picking up a bottle. Great stuff!
