Because why not?

2013 Project Pan Update #3

31 October 2013
So I've worked out how to resist the urge to buy things! The trick is not to go anywhere near shops. I will have no haul for the month of October because I have not bought a single thing I actually finished!!! I finished the freakin' spending ban!!! Ahh mahh gawd! I picked up some essentials and a few treats as a reward for being a good girl so there will be a little haul post for October. Go me!

So I got through a bit this month and I'm actually finding that there is stuff I need, so a shop is in order but as life will have it, it'll have to wait. Ironic. (Note: I started writing this post mid month so I could throw out some of my larger empties, turns out I did get to do that essentials shop but I surprised myself, but you'll just have to wait for my October haul post).

The photos in this post are quite rubbish, I think the settings on my camera weren't right. I'm not taking them again. Sorry but that's just the way it's gonna be today.

I know you all love my blurry photos.

# 18 Loreal Elvive Total Repair 5 Conditioning Restoring Spray - I've had this for ages, I used most of it and put it aside when another product came in to my life. When I started using it again I remembered why I had put it aside rather than giving it away or tossing it out. It's bloody brilliant. My hair loves this stuff, my nose loves this stuff and my wallet loves this stuff. The smell reminds me of Jolly Rancher candies *Drool*, makes my hair soft and shiny and it's inexpensive. I can't say that it repaired my hair but it certainly masks the shitty stuff that no one wants.
Repurchase? Sure, if my HG product wasn't within my budget at the time I would pick this up again.

# 19 Pantene 3 Minute Miracle - I don't like Pantene but I do like to give brands another go when they bring out new products, although this isn't new anymore I had yet to try it so I gave it a whirl. Turns out I still don't like Pantene and this was shit. It weighs my hair down and I can't confidently say that my hair was in better condition after using this system.
Repurchase? No.

# 20 Yes To Carrots Hydrating Shower Gel - I haven't tried a lot of the Yes To range but I was pleasantly surprised by this and it made me want to try more of their products.
It also pissed me off, you see this stuff does something wonderful to your skin, it makes it really soft and slippery while you're in the shower. So I'm washing my body and it feels lovely so I'm all: 'ohhh I love this stuff so much!". I rinse off my hands and pick up the bottle, it slips out of my grip, slams on the shower floor and the flip top dispenser pops off and I lose about 50ml of product before I have enough time to realise what the hell just happened. I sheepishly reattach the lid and am pleased to see that it all still works nicely. I make a mental note that this bottle is damn heavy when full and while using this stuff I have to be conscious of the fact that it makes my skin (including hands) slippery even after rinsing off the suds. Next time I go to shower I am faced with my bottle laying on the shower floor, lid popped off yet again and orange cleansing gel oozing down the drain. It was so heavy that the basket I had it sitting in (that was attached to the shower wall) had fallen under it's weight. I scoop up my bottle and it's lid but it's useless, something has broken and it no longer wants to work the way it should. I violently throw the lid across the bathroom, have an internal temper tantrum while cleaning up and am just generally angry at this point. From that point on it sat on my shower floor, slowly being diluted by water that found it's way in there. Yuck.
This stuff is a bargain really, $13 for half a litre of body wash and even with the spills it lasted me quite a while but the weight is a problem for me, not something I would have considered when buying it for the first time but now that I know about the issues it can present I'm likely to pass it up next time I'm shopping for this kind of product. The bottle needs some sort of grippy texture on it to prevent this. Also, store it on a steady surface, the weight of this product is enough to cause damage if it falls, I'm just glad it didn't land on my toes the first time I dropped it.
Now that I have ranted about the packaging I guess I better comment on the actual formula.. It's really nice, soaps up just enough and leaves your skin lovely and soft, more often than not I didn't bother moisturising after using it because my skin didn't feel like it needed it, hydrating it is! It smells like babies.. kind of talcum-y, it's not bad but not something I actively look for in a body wash.
Repurchase? I don't know, the weight of the bottle just shits me. This might seem like a stupid thing to be caught up on but when we are in the shower we are kinda slippery and I'm not sure about you guys but I don't want to drop half a litre of fluid encased in a plastic bottle on my feet, I also don't want this stuff oozing over my shower floor, it's dangerous and falling in the shower freaks me out. Awkward.

# 21 Puretopia Glowingly Smooth Body Polish - Yum! My skin loves this, it's my HG body exfoliator, I'm currently using another brand that I recieved in a goody bag and I'm not impressed to say the least, want it gone so I can buy this again. It usues walnut shells for it's scrubby ability but there is something else in there that makes your skin so soft, I don't really care what it is I just know that it works and I like it. It foams up quite nicely but it's sulfate free, personally I don't have an issue with sulfates but I know a lot of people are anti-this and anti-that so If you have a problem with sulfates this might be one to try. Another thing I have to mention is the scent, my nose screams 'MEXICAN COLA' every time I use it, the scent is actually a combination of things I don't really like, lime, lemongrass, ginger, sage, acai and guarana, give them to me seperately and I'll make a face at you, put them together in this product and I'm tempted to eat it.
Repurchase? Yes.

# 22 Listerine Total Care - Staple product, I like it because it's purple. That's all.
Repurchase? Already have!

# 23 White Glo Night Gel - I got this in a pack that had the original White Glo toothpaste in it as well, that one is looong gone. This stuff is supposed to reduce morning breath. You know what I think reduces morning breath? Good oral hygene. Brush your teeth morning and night and floss every day, go to the dentist, get your teeth cleaned if need be and make sure cavities are taken care of ASAP. One thing you shouldn't bother doing is buying this product, it's a gimmick. One reason you should buy this product is if you're a fan of chamomile because it slightly tastes of it, I really love chamomile so I did actually enjoy this product but don't buy in to the marketing crap.
Repurchase? Yeah maybe, I neither love it nor hate it which is how I feel about most toothpastes.

# 24 Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron - Goodbye my lover, Goodbye my friend. This stuff is great, you can read about my personal experience here. If you like fancy brands and spending a lot of money then you should check out this product instead.
Repurchase? Yes! In fact I really need to pick some of this up ASAP.

# 25 (OMG so close to being finished!!) Bourjois So Laque! in 30 Noir De Chine - Black polish is my go to colour, it looks good on my nails whether they are short or long. I have litterally worn this polish to death, it's so gluggy I can't even apply it properly and it takes about an hour to dry. When I purchased it, it was a nice polish, not really long lasting and IMO a little pricey for what it was but I can't really say anything bad about it other than that.
Repurchase? No. With brands like Ulta3 producing cheap polishes with a similar quality I'm not likely to bother with Bourjois polishes in the future unless they bring out a colour I adore or their formula changes.

# 26 Swisspers Original Face Wipes - It's probably no secret that I don't like makeup wipes but it's not because they aren't a good product, I just feel they are so horribly overused. I have to keep them in stock for my freelancing kit and I usually have a packet for myself but they literally last me months, I use them to remove makeup once in a blue moon, mostly they are used to clean product off my hands though.
Repurchase? Yep, I didn't mind these ones. If I saw them on sale or being sold in bulk I would have no problem buying them.

# 27 GHD Professional Miracle Worker - Get. Out. Of. My. Life.
My hair hates this, there is still a tiny bit left but I just can't keep putting this in my hair. It also stinks, think cheap Christmas gift pack soap/body wash/reeking crap.
Repurchase? Never.

# 28 Schick Quattro Titanium Razor Refills - I like men's razors. There, I said it. I've actually used men's razors for almost as long as I can remember when it comes to my history with shaving. I'm sure women's razors have actually come a long way in the last 10 or so years.. Perhaps I should give them a go?
Repurchase? Yes.

Deluxe Samples

# 29.1 Head and Shoulders Itchy Scalp Care - Effective and has nice cooling sensation but that's about it, didn't really win me over and I still prefer the Smooth and Silky range.
Repurchase? No, probably not.

# 29.2 Sunsilk Maximum Shine Treatment Conditioner - This is old, do they even make it any more? I just can't throw stuff out unless it's clearly no longer fit for use. Don't judge me, I know it's a problem and I've actively tried to take measures to fix it by doing my project pan. Turns out it worked because I finally used up a 100 year old sample of conditioner.
Repurchase? No.

# 29.3 Ajala Spa Conditioner - I love this stuff and pilfered it from a hotel in Europe. I have 3 little tubes left and I look upon them with love and joy. They are my babies.
Repurchase? If I can find it, yes! (or I'll be going back to Europe to pinch some more)

# 29.4 Dermalogica Precleanse - I Saturday Sampled this. It's brilliant.
Repurchase? Yes, I do have another cleansing oil in a massively large bottle that I should probably try to make a dent in first (I'm going to try very hard to keep my newly found good habits).

#29.5 Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion - Smells nice, does an ok job but it's not quite what my skin needs any more.
Repurchase? No.

Small Samples (I've been saving these up since my first month just to get a group of 10 together!)

# 30.1 Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster - Saturday Sampled this too, love it and want it!
Repurchase? Yes but I need the friggin' money. Life, why isn't the money making easier, I want pretty things!

# 30.2 Lonvitalite 24K Yulan Face Mask - I'm a fan of cloth masks but this one was surprising and I'm still undecided as to whether I like it or not. Let's see if writing it all down helps me come to a conclusion. For starters they are extremely generous with the fluid, you'll be able to squeeze out the excess in the pack after you remove and apply the mask, pop what's left over on your neck and decolletage for a treat (good). The  mask is cooling, to the point where I had to remove it but it is super refreshing and would be so good if you had issues with puffiness or wanted to use it in summer (also good but was too much for me on a cold day). It has a whitening effect and I shit you not it actually works, I was kinda shocked when I took the mask off, I didn't actually expect that aspect of it to work at all, but it does, you've been warned (great for people looking to brighten up their skin or those who are fans of whitening skin products).
Repurchase? After writing all that out I have decided that I do not like this product BUT I like that it is effective and I would have no issues purchasing other masks from the same brand to see if there is one more suited to me.

# 30.3 Cetaphil  Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion - It's ok but I'm not in love, I kind of feel like I'm falling out of love with Cetaphil in general but perhaps I'm expecting too much?
Repurchase? No.

# 30.4 Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion - Not bad! Did a pretty decent job of making my feel hydrated and it absorbed fairly quickly.
Repurchase? Possibly.

# 30.5&6 Nivea In Shower Body Lotion - Saturday Sampled! This is currently on sale at my local Coles for around $4.00 so I think I'll be grabbing one of each to test them out properly.
Repurchase? Yes.

# 30.7 Eulactol Heel Balm Gold - Saturday Sampled... again ha! Nice stuff.
Repurchase? Yes.

# 30.8 Elastoplast Therapeutic Heat Pad - Full review here. Loved!
Repurchase? Yes, yes, yes.

# 30.9&10 - John Frieda Full Repair Full Body Shampoo & Conditioner - This wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either, to be honest it was just a bit standard and I wouldn't burn rubber to get to the shops for it or burn a hole in my pocket to take it home.
Repurchase? I would maybe consider it if I saw it on sale but I don't need to have it.

Finally I have a few small items that I had been putting aside for my project pan to make up what I would consider a full sized product but they can finally be mentioned and thrown away!

Mirenesse  Eclipse Age Defence SPF 15 Daily Face & Neck Mineral Balm - My god, that name! Just call it Awesome Primer and be done with it! Saturday Sample review here.
Repurchase? I really like this and I do think it's worth it, if my disposable income was larger then yes, but for now I'm on the hunt for a more wallet friendly primer.

Eulactol Hand Balm - It's nice but I don't have super dry hands so a normal hand cream will do just fine for me and I can't really gauge how well this worked considering that my hands weren't suffering to begin with.
Repurchase? I wouldn't rule it out completely but I'm not going to be running out to buy a tube. I've just given away quite a few unopened hand creams and have more to get through myself so it's not going to be on my list for a while.

Glo Therapeutics Vita E Essential Cream - Really nice vitamin E day cream, I didn't find it too heavy but then again my skin is dry as hell. Would make a nice night cream for those who found it too heavy. Can't really comment on how great it really is because it was only enough for 2 applications.
Repurchase? I just checked the price to help determine whether I would purchase this in place of my usual vitamin E cream and it's $46.00 a jar. A Jar. No, I probably wouldn't. Yes it is a lovely cream and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if I had it in my mountain of face crap or try other products from the brand but the jar... I don't do jars if I can avoid it. Sorry but it's just a thing with me.

In conclusion I'm really glad I did the Project Pan and I think I'll make it a yearly thing, I did miss out on the Priceline 40% off skincare sale which I'm regretting now because I would have loved to stock up on some essentials, I think I'll factor that in next year.

I have discovered that restraint is easier if I just take a moment to think about what I really need and if it's something I really want but know I can live without, I put it back and wander around for a while to see how I feel when it's out of sight then come back to it and consider the product again before making a final decision. I'm still overflowed with products but I am making a dent in them which is actually a bit of a relief!

October haul coming tomorrow, it's little though!

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. Wow, you've gotten through so many products! Haha, the torture when you really need to go out and purchase some things but youre on a spending ban! I've been loving the Nivea in shower body conditioner, really works well for me! And gosh, I havent heard the Sunsilk name or brand for years!!

    1. I did finish a lot off in October, most of it I thought would be finished in September but they just didn't quite make it. I think the Nivea in shower stuff will be great in summer, I just hate that sticky feeling moisturiser leaves on my skin and I can't deal with it!

As for the Sunsilk.. I'm not even sure it exists anymore?? haha! Lets never speak of it again.
