Because why not?

2013 Project Pan Update #1.

30 August 2013
I have been struggling. Struggling with wanting products but realising that I can't afford them and have way too much as it is.

Spending bans aren't my thing, but working towards a goal with set rules is right down my alley. After reading 3 of Mary's (from Made in Marcelle) Project Pan posts I decided this was what I needed to do.

I have set my own rules, they are as follows:
  1. I must finish 30 full size skin care, body care or makeup products to complete Project Pan.
  2. No purchases of skin care, body care or makeup allowed unless I have completely run out and have no similar products in my stash.
  3. 10 Samples = 1 full size product. 5 Deluxe Samples = 1 full size products.
  4. Product must be completely depleted or no longer fit for use to be considered empty. Deciding I don't like a product and giving it away or throwing it out will not count towards my 30 products.
  5. I can accept product trials, samples or receive gift with purchase (gift with purchase only allowed if purchasing necessity that applies with rule #2)
  6. No crying allowed.
So I'm one month in and I'm doing ok so far, there is so much I have wanted to buy and I have made purchases but they have all been justified. You'll be able to read about those in my August 2013 collective haul once it's posted (will link).

Here's what I've finally finished this month..

Full Size Products:

# 1 U Little Beauty Natural Hair Repair - Love, love, love, love, love. I'm not sure what it is but my hair and this hair mask get along just swimmingly. Was sad when I realised it was almost empty and even put a little water in it to help get the very last skerrick out of the bottle.
Repurchase? Yes for sure, I have a few things to use up first but this would almost have HG status for me so will be buying again in the future. If you're a fan or interested in buying, has these on sale at half price!

# 2 T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel - Again, love this stuff. Some find it a little harsh but my skin has no issues with it and it does a fantastic job when it comes to removing crap you can't see. I tried very hard to go without it and use some other toner samples I had but they didn't compare and my skin wasn't happy.
Repurchase? Already have.

# 3 Swisspers Baby Cotton Balls - Ahhh these are so awesome. They are just like normal cotton balls but on steroids. I find 2 will remove a whole face of makeup including all the crap on my eyes, because they are so large I use less and this makes me happy.
Repurchase? Tried to but they were sold out. Grabbed the normal ones instead. Not so awesome.

# 4 TruValue Makeup Remover Pads - I purchased these in bulk because I need a million for my freelancing kit. They aren't great, leave a lot of fibers behind and are inconsistent with size and thickness. Have been trying to use them myself to get rid of what I have.
Repurchase? No.

# 5 Indola Professional Colour - Love these, the colour is the darkest drown I can find, a lot of people comment that they like my black hair, then they see it in the sun and realise it's a super deep brown. They colour really well and I don't end up with massive damage but I'm having some pretty serious issues with my hair and struggling with the decision to stop colouring it, while I don't think the hair colouring is causing my issues I figure it would be better to rule it out before I continue colouring.
Repurchase? Probably yes in the future.

# 6 Revitanail - Love it, it works and has HG status for me. Anyone who has owned a bottle and had it sit for some time will probably know that the last bit thickens up if not used, mine has done that and it's just not usable any more.
Repurchase? Yes.

# 7 Lynx Anarchy For Her - Best. Enough said.
Repurchase?  Yes, after I've used my backup a little :)

# 8 Playboy Play It Rock - Really nice scent, not super long lasting but what body sprays are?
Repurchase? Possibly, I'd like to try more in the range.

# 9 Diesel Zero Plus Feminine - Again, love this stuff. It's inexpensive and the scent lasts quite well on me.
Repurchase? Perfumes aren't a big thing for me, I might or might not. More likely to buy something new I haven't tried yet.

Deluxe Samples:

# 10.1 Batiste Dry Shampoo Tropical - Not a sample but these small cans only last me 2-3 uses. I'm learning to love dry shampoo and slowly trying to make my way through the whole range. Tropical is my fave so far.
Repurchase? Yes, once I've got through the rest of the range.

# 10.2 Batiste Dry Shampoo Original - Not bad, reminds me of the way baby's smell when they are all clean and fresh.
Repurchase? Probably not.

# 10.3 Ajala Spa Conditioner - Does anyone else pilfer shampoo and conditioner samples from hotels? I do when they are freakin' awesome! This is by far the best conditioner I have found while staying at a hotel. My hair loves it. Want to Saturday Sample it but you can't actually buy it so go forth and hoard them if you find them in your hotel room!
Repurchase? Would if I could!

#10.4 Dior Hydraction Face Cream - Ehh it's ok. Wouldn't shed a tear if I couldn't have it though. Bit of a nothing product for me.
Repurchase? Nope.

# 10.5 Olay Regenerist Skin Renewal Cleanser - Came with the Olay Advanced Cleansing System. Again it's ok but a bit nothing.
Repurchase? No.

So I got through 10 products this month, there are a few normal samples that I didn't list for the sake of not confusing myself when it comes to my numbers, I'll include them next month if the amount I use equates to a full size product. I'm finding this to be a great way to encourage me to use up almost empty products and rediscover products I've put aside, for example I've been using body moisturiser which I generally hate but I'm finding it's growing on me.

Have you ever done a project pan? Link it in the comments if you blogged about it!

All Products were purchased by myself and I'm in no way affiliated with any of the companies mentioned unless otherwise stated. Links provided are for shopping examples only, I have personally purchased from some (not all) of these online stores but I highly recommend researching before buying.

  1. Hi Hailey,
Youve gone through some lovely products :)
I love the idea of project pan...but there is no way i could do it lol. Im a product addict!! name is Lady Sapphire and I'm addicted to beauty sales. Seriously a real issue lol.
Best of luck with your project hun x

    1. There are days when I find it really difficult, seems like everywhere I look there is a beauty sale of some sort and it's so hard to resist! I really do need to get through some of my products though so I'm happy about that aspect.

  2. Okay, this is such a good idea. I have just gone through my entire collection of products in my bathroom and have 17 shampoo and 56 conditioner / mask samples to go through, so I've enlisted my husband. He has to use them too and leave me a little note with what he does / doesn't like about the product should he use it. Only when they are finished will I put out any more full bottles to use half of!!

    1. Do it!! Even to just clear out some samples it's a great way to have a clean out without feeling like you've wasted anything and I am saving money (and then spending it on other things) ha!

  3. I love your Project Pan rules. I'm just starting my own Project Pan. It's going to be a challenge, for sure!

    1. Elle you can do it!!! If you ever need a pep talk don't hesitate to come back here for some words of wisdom. It's hard but doable. Will you be blogging your experience? If so, feel free to link your blog because I would love to read it!
