Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel*

19 April 2017

Pain or discomfort? Yeah I hear you loud and clear. I sit a lot for work, I also stand a lot for work but it's not that nice combination of the two that allows your body time to rest certain areas while putting others to work and vice versa. It's hours and hours of being in the same position knowing that if I'm hurting now it's going to be worse when I get up but also knowing that this is the moment that I really need to suck it up because deadlines don't wait.

When Aromatherapy Associates sent me a media release for the new Aromatherapy Associates Muscle Gels I replied to express interest, I also basically begged for the De-Stress version because sometimes I just need all the help I can get.

The Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel is designed to ease discomfort in muscles and joints after physical activity or simply a long day of standing, sitting or doing repetitious low impact work that puts a strain on the body.

"Particularly effective for those who spend their days at a computer so, for instant relief, keep this in your drawer or on your desk.  It’s also an essential aid for those undertaking physical training and who suffer the stresses and strains of gardening and other demanding outdoor activities. Apply for immediate relief in 10 minutes."

Packaging is a simple squeeze tube with a flip top lid, the dispenser is small enough to allow you to squeeze out just a little bit of product if you are applying to small areas and also doesn't encourage waste of product.

The formula is a traditional gel, it holds it's shape when being squeezed out and doesn't ooze all over the place yet it starts to melt a little when you rub it in to your skin so a little goes a long way, it feels lovely and cooling on the skin but absorbs completely with no residue so you can dress quickly if applying after a shower or feel confident that it won't transfer on anything you come in contact with throughout the day, it also leaves the skin feeling soft, bonus!

I love to rub this in to my lower back, shoulders and arms when I'm doing marathon editing sessions and I notice I'm starting to slump my shoulders, my backside is going to sleep, or, worst of them all, my fingers are starting to get a tingly pain from all the repetitive movements with a mouse or typing.

The scent of the product is a nice mixture or lavender, rosemary and ginger, personally I'm not usually a fan of lavender heavy scents but this one doesn't bother me, the rosemary and ginger help to balance it out and add a little extra warmth, another bonus with the scent is that it doesn't smell medicinal so I'm not self conscious about being around people if I've used it.

If you deal with body aches and pains and you're looking for something that will help to ease your discomfort that won't leave you smelling like tiger balm with a greasy residue on your skin then I would highly recommend checking out the Aromatherapy Associated De-Stress Muscle Gel.

Other products in the range include:

Renew Rose Hydrating Body Gel (200ml, $72.00AUD)
"A quenching gel for dehydrated and stressed out skin, Renew Rose Body Hydrating Gel softens the skin reducing dryness, helping to restore a natural suppleness"

Revive Body Gel (200ml, $72.00AUD)
"For those who are concerned about cellulite or simply feeling tired, sluggish and in need of a general detox.  This invigorating blend contains the essential oils of pink grapefruit, juniper berry and rosemary"

Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Gel (150ml, $56.00AUD) is available at Aromatherapy Associates Australia online
website and leading hotel and destination spas, worldwide. aromatherapyassociates.com.au

Amie Skincare - Micellar Water | Exfolitaing Polish | Matte Finish Moisturiser*

27 January 2017

I was recently contacted by Amie after they saw my Priceline Skincare Goodie Bag post and happily accepted the opportunity to try out some of their products.

Amie was founded by Fiona Parkhouse, ex-Estee Lauder executive and focuses on using plant based and organic ingredients whenever possible while developing their products, the range features skincare products that are simple yet effective and are free of parabens, petrochemicals, SLS/SLES, genetically modified ingredients and are suitable for Vegetarians and Vegans.

Amie Petal Perfect Gently Cleansing Micellar Water*

If you're a makeup wearer you'll already be aware that good skincare starts with making sure the face is clean before going in with your nourishing products so removing makeup properly is a key step. The Amie Micellar Water is gentle yet effective and does a great job when it comes to breaking down a full face of makeup, it has a typical micellar water consistency and has a fresh botanical scent. The bottle contain 200ml of fluid and retails for $8.99 making it an extremely affordable option.

Unfortunately the product doesn't have an easy time breaking down waterproof mascara although this is fairly typical of micellar waters in general, I also feel that the fragrance could be omitted, it isn't stated on the ingredient list exactly what the fragrance is which isn't surprising as the scent would be unique to the brand but if you are typically sensitive to fragrance in products you may want to patch test with this product first.

Amie New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish*

Another pivotal step in skincare is exfoliation, the Amie Exfoliating Polish uses rice powder to manually exfoliate the skin while the cream base helps to hydrate and prevents stripping of the skin, this exfoliator smells of mangoes and I actually have to fight the temptation of tasting it every time I use the product, it really does smell simply amazing. The tube contains 100ml of product and retails for $8.99.

I find this exfoliator to be gentle yet effective and while it does seem to leave a slight residue on the skin initially it absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave the skin feeling slick, just a nice, clean, smooth, hydrated feeling. The exfoliating particles are a little sparse but it's not a detriment to the products efficacy, this is a nice one for all skin types and those who don't like over the top skincare.

Amie Morning Dew Matte-Finish Moisturiser*

The final step in skincare should always be hydration and if you have oily skin like me, finding the right type of moisturiser that hydrates without leaving you a slick mess can be difficult. This moisturiser looks like a typical cream when you squeeze it out of the tube but thins out dramatically when it comes in contact with the skin and almost feels like a gel moisturiser, it's hydrating and softening and really does leave a natural matte finish on the skin which makes it perfect for prepping the skin for makeup application. Another great value product containing 100ml for $9.99, this tube will last you months and months!

This product does have a fairly heavy rose scent so that is definitely something to take in to consideration if you aren't a fan of rose scented skincare and it likely wouldn't be suitable for people with extremely dry skin, however the second ingredient is glycerine so it would work for anyone ranging from moderately dry to oily skin, another really lovely and effective product for those who like something a little more simple without the high price tag.

Maslow & Co - Global Beauty Box | December 2016

28 December 2016

The latest Maslow & Co box has arrived! This box celebrated all of the destinations visited throughout the first year of Maslow & Co's release, inside are items from Australia, Korea, the UK, New Zealand and the USA.

Benefit Hoola (USA) - Sample size 3g, value $19.00
Everyone knows about this bronzer! It's a favourite of mine so I'm very happy to have a little travel version, the packaging is great, super sturdy plastic with a snap closure, so I'll be holding on to this for when I'm on the road!

Wyte Luxe Whitening Applicator (Australia) - Full size 5ml, RRP $29.95
Tooth whitening gel pen, I think we are all fairly familiar with how these work. I quite like gel whitening pens, they are easy to use and there is zero mess involved, I'll happily hold on to this one.
Handy little item.

NeoGen Bio Peel+ Gauze in Lemon & Wine (Korea) - Full size (single sheet) x2, RRP $2.50 each ($5.00)
NEOGEN. DEAD! I adore NeoGen and I'm super pumped to try these, they are essentially an exfoliating pad that you use after washing your face, after swiping over your face you simply rinse with water and continue on with your skin care routine.

Manna Kadar Day Dream Palette (USA) - Full size, RRP $53.00
A face and eye palette that really surprised me! Nicely pigmented shades with some matte crease colours, my only gripe is that the bronzer is very gold toned and very shimmery but would make a lovely eyeshadow or body highlight during the summer.

Zelens Transformer Instant Renewal Mask (UK) - Sample size 15ml, value $47.00
This is supposed to be an instantly firming and refining mask, I'm super excited to try this out because any mask that has instant visible results is a winner in my book!

Beenigma Face Cream (New Zealand) - Sample size 5ml, value $17.95
When I was filming my unboxing I felt like this was a familiar product and I was right! It's been hyped in the past, pair that with the fact that it contains bee venom and you can probably guess that I'm keen to give this a whirl.

TonyMoly Petite Bunny Gloss Bar - Full size, RRP $8.95
A super cute tinted lip balm that HAS A BUNNY HEAD FOR A LID. Stop it!

Total value of contents: $180.85

The last item is the Shu Uemura Art Series Restorative Conditioner for Damaged Hair, this was the Maslow Maven Gift that came in 3 different variants (I assume sent out based on your hair type), this item is valued at $58.00

This concludes a year of being subscribed to Maslow & Co, I have opted not to resubscribe simply because I am trying to save for some expensive stuff, however I let this one go with a lot of fear of missing out, I expect Maslow to bring some awesome boxes to the table in 2017.

To round up the year I'm going to give a little break down of what a year of Maslow & Co boxes consists of.

Subscription cost $240.00AUD for six boxes (now $318.00, introductory pricing has ended)
Total number of items received: 44 ( 28 full size, 16 sample size - does not include Maslow Maven gifts)
Total value of contents over the year: $910.44

If you're looking for a high end subscription box to sign up to in 2017, I highly recommend Maslow and co, to find out more about their service you can check out their website here.

Marie Claire The Parcel - December 2016 | Summer Edition

26 December 2016

My very last Marie Claire box has arrived, the Summer 2016 edition is jam packed but failed to impress.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturiser in Light/Medium - Full size 221ml, RRP $10.99
Gradual tanner that I'm actually interested in trying out, I'm not one to fake tan but I think I'd be happy to give this a go on my legs.

Banana Boat Sun Comfort Lotion SPF 50+ - Sample size 59ml, approx. value $5.72
This is supposed to allow sand to brush off easily, not sure if that claim would be true, it feels no different to other body sun lotions and I'm not really interested in testing it out because sand is Mother Nature's way of torturing people, however the sunscreen smells great, kind of like pineapple and coconut, so I will happily use it.

Avene Micellar Lotion - Full size 200ml, RRP $30.95
Makeup remover, handy item.

Schick Hydro Silk Razor - Full size, RRP $14.25
This is my favourite item in the box, something I feel is necessary but overpriced and hate spending money on. Happy camper.

Klorane Quinine Conditioner - Full size 150ml, RRP $13.95
Conditioner aimed at preventing hair loss by strengthening the hair at the root, would happily try it out but it smell heavily of cheap cologne.

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads - Sample size 5 pads, approx. value $2.49
Glycolic acid based face wipes, I've used these in the past and they don't really impress me but work fine as a quick toner application.

Moroccan Oil Treatment - Sample size 10ml, approx. value $5.99
Probably one of the most well known hair oils on the market, my hair responds well to this stuff so I'm happy to have it.

Swisse Manuka Honey Detoxifying Facial Mask - Sample size 10ml, approx. value $2.85
I'm sure I've heard good things about this mask so I'm willing to put aside the fact that it's a sachet sample and give it a go.

Nude By Nature Sheer Glow BB Cream - Sample size 15ml, approx. value $14.97
Light coverage BB cream, colour is too dark for me so I won't hang on to this.

Palmer's Coconut Oil Body Lotion - Sample size 50ml, approx value $1.47
Coconut oil based body moisturiser, I'll patch test this since I've had reactions to a Palmer's product in the past and if all goes well I'll definitely use it.

Approximate value of contents: $103.61

Looking back at a year of Marie Claire The Parcel boxes:
Cost of subscription: $99.00AUD (4 boxes)
Total # of items received: 37 (17 full size, 20 samples)
Approximate value of contents over the year: $416.38

I really don't mind Marie Claire's The Parcel, it's on the affordable side and sometimes they really hit the mark with the boxes but I'm ok with letting this one go in 2017.

If you want to know more about this subscription service you can check out Marie Claire's The Parcel website.

Bare Minerals - You Better Not Pout Lipstick Collection

19 December 2016

The Bare Minerals You Better Not Pout Lipstick Set is just one of the many items in their Christmas 2016 collection, the pack contains 7 mini Marvelous Moxie Lipsticks in a range of shades including nudes, pinks and red.

The set retails for $44.00AUD and contains a total of 10.5 grams (1.5 gram per lipstick), which means you're getting about $78.00AUD of value in product alone.

The formula of the lipsticks is exactly like a full size Marvelous Moxie Lipstick which is very pigmented, creamy and hydrating, however, they are not long wearing. They have a slight peppermint scent due to containing peppermint oil and they do leave a slight cooling sensation.

My only issue with this set is that the colours that you see on the packaging aren't a great representation of what is in the box so I would definitely recommend swatching shades in store if you can. Two shades in the set, Act Natural & Watch me are shimmery shades and not sold in the standard range.

Act Natural - A cool shimmery, translucent pink. Personally I feel this would only work as a topper for other shades.

Speak Your Mind - Rose toned pink with the standard cream formula.

Fly High - Light mauve, standard cream formula.

Never Say Never - Vibrant fuchsia, standard cream formula.

Call The Shots - Blue based red with  the standard cream formula.

Watch Me - Really interesting, nude coral with a little shimmer.

Break Away - Dark mauve-ish nude, cream formula.

The Bare Minerals You Better Not Pout Marvelous Moxie Lipstick set reatils for $44.00AUD and is available at Mecca Maxima, Mecca Cosmetica and online at Mecca.com.au.
